dr_jekyll
hey all, could anbody shed some light on how much of a car must be changed for it to be classed as a kit car. short story. my part time worker/ futer brother in law is looking to buy his first car (still 16) but he wants something different. for insurance reasons we are going to modify it into a "kit car" but i was wondering how far we will have to go. thanks
Josh
Just done a quick Google search and it looks like there are companies that will insure people of "any age". I can't answer the actual question though.

My first quote was for £1600 just over a year ago. I thought it was a J-spec and I got a great quote, turns out it was a UK spec.
Tee from China
By definition a kit car is just that - a car made from a kit of parts, usually fibreglass and using mechanical parts from a rusty Ford, Mini or whatever where on completion have to undergo an IVA test and may get a Q plate registration. Some kits now are more like bodykits and dont need testing other than the MOT. Have a look on Madaboutkits website and all you questions should be answered

Ark
There's a point system published on the DVLA website - each thing you change counts a number of points, and when you hit the magic number, it has to be registered on a Q plate. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/RegisteringAVehicle/DG_10014199
