gazzi123
Im after some metal pressed plates (like german ones) are they uk legal? As i have seen police behind many of my mates cars which have metal pressed plates (plain) just correct colour (yellow back/white front) with metal press and nothing was done? As my front plate ive been pulled couple times and immediatly they stated 'is it an import ....thats fine then'. http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/634/imagevww.jpg So if anyone knows of someone that can make custom size pressed plates please let me know. Swampy442
I was under the impression they were illegal.
Tony
be ok as long as size and colours are correct
ManwithSupra
Dont they have to be reflective?
Ian W
be ok as long as size and colours are correct Wrong. Stick on plates are also illegal. Dont they have to be reflective? As above, they need to have a reflective backing as well as the info of the retailer who sold them.
Gaz6002
Yep, Ian's right. They're illegal. They don't have the reflective qualities of the real deal and have to give the retailer information too. I know several people who've been done for it. Tony
Sorry thought it went without saying they would have to be reflective, where did stick on come into it?

They're also illegal, therefore the link was made. The prerequisites are as Gaz and I mentioned. Not entirely sure how your metal pressed plates are going to be reflective though? I have metal (aluminium) pressed plates on my other car and they are reflective and have the correct spacing and font, they've passed the last 2 MoT's as well. Got them from here: Ebay

Got them from here: Ebay Looks good, but the fact that they're just willing to make plates based on me telling them any old registration in an ebay message is a tad worrying. NB: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_181503 Note that it doesn't make any reference to what material can or cannot be used, as long as it meets all the other spec.
