Tyson
Religion has been the basis of most of the wars this world has seen. Religion is tarnished by the few extremists who exploit certain parts of the their beliefs to justify mass murder in the name of a so called higher power. If the world had never seen religion it would be a better place and millions of people need not have died for no reason. Religion as an idea is a good one it gives people hope and a way of life but in practice is flawed by human nature.

Scott
World War 2 for example ..It wasnt based on religion. Anne Frank-ley I find such bold and sweeping statements outside of mein kampf-ort zone. I said most not all. I'm thinking he may have been jesting with his comment. It was religious, WW2 kicked off because of Hitler still wanting his master race (Ayrans or something like that). My History knowledge is sketchy at best. Both World Wars and most other conflicts have came down to Religious beliefs and belief indiferences.

SteamAhead
To me I prefer the animal way of looking at things... Born. Eat. Sleep. Reproduce. Bit more eating Die. The End. (oh and the odd scuffle with another animal over food or partner) The human race has become to clever for it's own good with all these theories and conflicts, as before we created fire etc. we where no better or worse than any other animal on this planet. No doubt to an animal, every day is christmas as they are always scoffing there faces with there family and friends, (leaving a lovely present at the end) Anyway that's my two pence worth
tbourner
id love to have seen the size of noah's boat, and the chaos inside as its normal i think for animals to eat each other Haven't you seen Evan Almighty? God commanded them to all sit nicely and follow Noah. One fact I like (think of the 10 commandments) 75% of Americans are Christian, 10% are atheist. 75% of prisoners in the USA are Christian. 0.2% are atheist. How does that work? What fills the gaps in percentage? It doesn't say Christians are more likely to commit crime only that the missing 15% 'whatevers' are. The Aetheists become Christians (or follower of other unamed religion).

It doesn't say Christians are more likely to commit crime only that the missing 15% 'whatevers' are. Other religions I assumed. I saw it as in theory the percent of religious people in prison and out should be roughly the same. Christianity does preach no theft or murder etc. Yet all the goodwill towards men stuff in the bible doesn't seem to make Christians better people. Or that being a non believer makes you a bad one. But non believers only have morals and common sense as a guide and seem to not all get arrested. Just thought it was an interesting factoid (true or not - I don't know) Maybe my judgement and pov is clouded seeing all the crazy Christianity in the states (My wife is from the states). George bush not approving stem cell research because he didn't want to upset god is a prime example. Most Americans are not idiots like people will have you believe but it's mostly people who think the world is only a few thousand years old and that Obama is a secrete communist and has a psychic hotline to hitler for trying to set up healthcare for everyone that give them a bad name. Glen beck and sarah alin are prime examples of these Pollocks. Anyway going off topic...

ccwade
very good question and the answer will offend many, but the truth does cut many people. christmas had its start before christian gentiles made it popular in this common era. the answer is: why do non-religious people and christians not celebrate sukkot or the "feast of booths" which is in the bible?
