insurance advice needed

Our delica was written off in nov the insurance company sent us a cheque which we received on the 17th dec,our broker has sent a letter saying they are cancelling our policy because we asked if the was anything to come back IF we cancelled it has 5 months left to run,

 

i rang them up and explained we was just enquiring weather there would be any refund if we cancelled the policy,to which i was told well if you dont get another import they will cancel it, i told them we are looking to get a toyota surf to use the remainder of insurance then turn it into a off road toy when the insurance runs out.

 

now our problem is this, our brokers are saying we have 14 days from receiving the cheque to get another vehicle or they will cancel our policy,

so we received the cheque on the 17th, 5 days to clear from monday when we put the cheque in the bank which takes us up to today the 24th dec so we have 9 days inc xmas new yr to find a replacement vehicle or they will cancel our policy,

 

can they do this considering it took me 6 weeks to find a delica i liked in the first place im sure it would take me several weeks to find a surf i like,

 

or are they just trying it on to be honest they are the worst brokers i have ever dealt with every time we have asked them to do something theve got it wrong and been totally unhelpful the owner seems to have a bad attitude and has even sent me a txt saying be careful what you say about his company on forums!!
