Ark
They have obviously blocked it for a reason, although spending a month there at a time it seems a little unfair to block the social sites. But if they have blocked it and you attempt to circumnavigate this block, you could leave yourself open to disciplinary action. Maybe not now, but a few months down the line, if they ever need to cut numbers, it's the sort of thing that can be used against you. Simple fact of the matter is that since the company owns all of the equipment, they can make all the rules on how it's used. Any attempt to bypass the enforced rules can be classed as a "deliberate attempt to circumvent security policy" and be a shortcut to a gross misconduct hearing, even if it seems harmless to you, or the rules seem unfair. The ONLY option you should be following is to get the rules changed with an official exception made for rig workers, by escalating a request through management. Trying to get a friendly IT guy to help may drop them in it too...

I think he'll struggle leaving a rig in the middle of the ocean after work finishes......... EDIT: What i dont think people are understanding here is that he's on a rig. Which has maybe 1 phone that your allowed 10mins on per day and everyone on the rig wants this phone also! So if you have access to internet and facebook you can keep in touch with people much more easier. This isnt about withdrawl symptoms from facebook its simply keeping in contact with friends and family.

mplavery
i think there is a site you go on called hidemyass.com or something like that which hides the site so you can go on facebook etc etc lol
stevie_b
i think there is a site you go on called hidemyass.com or something like that which hides the site so you can go on facebook etc etc lol It's a proxy server: any system admin worth their salt will have blocked off that kind of website too. To block facebook and not block proxy servers is like locking the front door, but leaving the back door wide open with a welcome sign pointing towards it. They are not very strict on the phone here right now, but that will be the next thing to be taken from us. There is a lot more traffic on the phone lines now FB is blocked..! I agree it's a total hassle that part of Aberdeen, I also remember back in the days having to back track for ages to get by that stupid pole in the middle of the road..! Im glad your sticking with stock black, best colour IMO (behind gunmetal). Im guessing the red/black combo of marc's was too much Yes Marc's Sup reminded me how much I like the Red/Black look. It will also be so much easier to do touch ups, re-spray the front bumper etc..! It's a no brainer really'...! I cant wait to get this done so I can start getting together the parts to turn her onto a single tubby monster..! It will be so much fun having it in Lisbon too..!
