Energy efficient heaters?

Winter is really biting and it really gets cold here especially during nights. I am thinking of getting a portable heater but not sure which type to get.

It has to be economical since our electric bills are already high. Also has to be portable as we would be moving it from room to room as required. I guess that rules out most oil based heaters?

I haven't bought heaters for pretty long time but my last one was an oil based heater. It takes ages to warm up and is really heavy!

I wonder if technology has caught up now and maybe someone could recommend something good?

Many thanks!

Machine Mart Little Devil propane heater, their really meant for garage use but i cant see why you

couldnt use it inside a house.

Max output 35,000 Btu/hr (approx. 10.25kW)

Complete with regulator & heavy duty gas hose

Fuel safety cut out in the event of overheat, flame or power failure

Approved to Calor, GS & DVGW standards

230V power input

Dimensions (LWH) 340x180x270mm

I had a portable De Longhi oil filled radiator and it was crap and as you say took forever to get warm, took it back and got an electric fire but that isnt very economical, kicks out great instant heat though.

Agree if you have kids the little devil is a no no.

I guess its something like the portable calor gas fires then, possibly the cheapest to run and safest.

Disastrous things, what with the condensation and fumes.

If you're heating people get a halogen heater, they use radiant heat. If you're heating the room, use a convector heater.

Hmmm just keeping a small space warm. I have a wee ceramic heater with fan I bought from HK years ago but that thing draws electricity like no tomorrow. It's pretty hot though. Just wondering if there's something new that's better.

Oil based heaters are good if you plan to leave it on whole day/night but I will be just using it to "boost" the heating in a small sized room. So maybe a balance between heating people and room?
