GlennK
Just took me 1 hour to get home over a railway bridge hill!! Unamusing. Was using the BMW with new Falken Ziex ZE 912 tyres and in Snow mode. And I dropped the pressures down on the rears. It just got over the bridge hill but only when I gunned it and slewed sideways zigzagging. Anyway checked the tyres and noticed they've got evenly spaced holes in the tread - looks like they will take snow studs! Looked on web but can't find anything about this - anyone know about the Falken 912's and snow studs?

Dnk
Think you'll find studded tyres are illegal in the uk.
dude
For studded tyres to work you need to have a layer of ice.
Gaz6002
Think you'll find studded tyres are illegal in the uk. Our roads are bad enough as it is. Proper winter tyres should cause you no hassles if you're driving properly.
Guigsy
And if you did fit studs once you got some clean tarmac you would have less grip than a normal tyre I would assume. And like has been said studs won't grip any better on snow

I just bought one of the last sets of all terrain tyres that fit my 18's in the country, General Grabber AT2's the grip is phenominal driving on snow is like driving on an unmade road, on fresh snow it just accelerates as normal. dude
Just a side note, Ben San picked his car up today, thick snow that came down in a couple of hours and jack knifed lorries blocking his way, sauntered over with snow chains and left in about 4" of snow, not phased at all. They have no grip

Had these on my L200 for a couple of years, great tyre and with 4wd I just can't seem to get the thing stuck in snow or ice.
dude
Had these on my L200 for a couple of years, great tyre and with 4wd I just can't seem to get the thing stuck in snow or ice. Amazing thing is there is hardly any road noise and the guys that sell and use em said I would have better wet grip than with my 20" Toyos, however they do not work on ice!!!! What does seem to work and I can't figure how is the HDC (hill descent) even on steep icy slopes it seems to hold onto the car and not let it do anything untoward. Next date for buying these is Feb !!!!!!!!! And that was from the importers, I was lucky enough to find someone 20 miles away that had (when I called) 20 tyres, within 10 mins he had sold 16 and I had the last 4. GlennK
I found the Falken 912s not that great for grip in the cold. And the little holes I saw are actually wear indicators for 2mm wear! Maybe should invest in a pair of rear winter tyres - if there's any left in the UK...and second pair of rims.
