Purity14
Im going to have a look at one of these tomorrow, and im wondering if anyone in the northwest has any advice or knowlage or experience of what I should look for? Its on air suspension, its an auto, and it has a digi dash. The tv/changer doesnt work, but that isnt a concern to me. Is there anything i should be look out for? Thanks. Swampy442
Garethr is your man for this, all my Soarer experience is TT based but, make sure the air suspension operates and the pump doesnt run constantly, and make sure the car sits level. Drive it and make sure theres no clunks or noises that indicate arm bush wear. The rear spark plugs are a pain to get to and as a result dont get changed often and the ignition parts (disi caps, leads etc) are expensive so make sure theres no missfires. Dashes suffer from 'blinki dash' in the cold when the lower section od the dash doesnt work/flickers, easy repair if youre handy with a soldering iron. If its got the touch screen thing and it doesnt work it will concern you as thats where all the climate and stereo controls are, and theyre quite expensive to repair/replace. Much like a Supra a Soarer isnt a cheap car to run/repair.
jagman
Tv wont work as its for Japan ,but a dvd is easy to hook up in the same screen, check the drivers door hinge ,they are heavy doors and can drop , press the scroll button on the dash and it checks most of the systems for faults Generally they are trouble free the air suspension systems are now old and expensive to replace or repair ,many go onto conventional coilovers
Purity14
The car itself has done 54,000 miles or something, but from what I can tell from pictures it has been clocked, 100% certain. IMO i think it will have done at least 154,000 miles. Im going to offer him 1250 for it, the only concern is that the heater controls work now.. Ill see what happens tomorrow. I have heard that the v8 itself is a decent engine apart from the sparkplugs and the leaky radiators everyone seems to get. Hmm
edinlexusV8
This V8 is one the best V8 ever produced by Toyota. When it was first release it was deemed better than any V8s ferrari had on its road cars at that time. Also it is very reliable and the miles on this engine doesn't really matter as there are a few examples in US which have clocked more than a million miles and are still going strong and smooth. What year is this car? Generally soarers are a produced quite a few years ago so some of the bits like radiator can be fault or leaking due to corrosion. Also check for fuel pump ecu that can go faulty too. Other than these minor issues I think it would be just a fantastic car to own and drive. You should upgrade the diff to an LSD and upgrade the brakes to a Big Supra TT brakes to get the best out of the car. Upgrading the air suspension would be a good idea aswell or change to coilovers. As this model being one of the first Lexuses, toyota did a wonderful job not compromising any where to start the lexus brand. The build quality is way better than a Merc or a Beemer or a Jag when these were first produced and it remained so for the next 8-10 years. Trust me I can say this because I own one and it is 20 years old, it is just fun to drive and it is also my main car. One of the things that can happen is, you will not notice that you are driving at 120mph but rather 60mph from inside the car. It is just quite inside coz of double glazed windows and sound deadening meterials
Chris Wilson
If you buy it it's a shame they no longer give Green Shield stamps with petrol, as you would accrue a lot of them Nice cars though, a lot to go wrong, but they seem less likely to than pretty much anything else of a similar techie nature. Good luck.
Swampy442
Double glazed windows?? Proof please. If you want a V8 Soarer with none of the hassles you can get the UZZ30 which is the pov pack model, conventional suspension, no touch screen but just about everything else the 31 has. jagman
"pov pack" That would be with ultrasonic, heated, flippy mirrors, autodim mirrors, soft touch wiper/indicator controls, elec steering column, auto retract passenger seat, memory electric seats ,turning lights, air con, yadda yadda,,,,LOL Try a 1970 s Lada; "roof" ,"check", "floor" ,"check" ,"OK lets go...
