mellonman
the tipex test, simple at the bottom of the engine the crank pulley is, its the lowest and largest pulley that the aux belts go around where it is bolted and to where the belt sits there will be a rubber section its about 2 -3 mm thick just put a nice line of tipex across it and run it for a bit turn off and then see if that line is still complete
mellonman
this is the pulley http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=33943&d=1145911643
Jellybean
Thanks, so the Rubber part I should tipex up is nearest the Engine Block or on the face of the pulley Will I run the tipex 360 degreee around circumferance of the rubber? No, start from the top of the pulley, and run tipex down to the bottom of the pulley. TOP to BOTTOM. Check it after it has squeeked again and you will know if it has slipped, because your line wont be straight.

Verticle line down the face of the Pulley , got it

SupraMan Mk4
Could the noise be something to do with the high-idle choke thingy madjigy? :s Clearly not one for technical knowledge I know but could it be this as it only happens on colder days? Lude
the aux belts just one belt not belts
stevie_b
Does the squeal definitely stop when the car's warmed up? If not, it could be any of the pulleys that the belt goes around. Tensioner pulley or power steering pulley would be my guess. Difficult to test them individually unless you've got known good parts that you can swap in. Yep stops, after a few minutes on idle or if you drive her a few meters; it may just be the cold weather Colder it is the more pronounced the noise, at -8 you would definetly hear it until she warmed up
Attero
Mine currently has the same, either that or I can't hear the sqeal over the engine noise, but it can happen often on low rpm. I'm going to take it into the garage on saturday and ask what they think of it. It's very quiet and you can't really hear it unless you are listening out for it. Supra-Brett
Sounds like crank pulley. Mine did it earlier this year. Another test is to put heaters, rear screen heater, lights etc all on THEN start the engine. This puts load on the pulley and makes it worse so the squeak is more evident. Turn it all off and it might not squeek at all. Tip ex test is best though. Mine moved a full 90degrees as there seems to be 2 x parts of the crank pulley (inner and outer wheels spot welded together), once the spot welds go they move around each other. Some other members had horendous stories of when they broke, as the crank pulley (several punds in weight spinning at several thousand RPM) bounces aroubd the engine bay smashing up everything. Basically, do the test quick, if its the pulley dont drive it unless its to the garage.
Jellybean
I will do the Test, I will check her when I go home but am nearly sure it is when she is left stone cold for over 12 hours I get the noise on start up
stevie_b
Check to see if your tensioner is within the recommended tolerance. Search on here for what to do, it involves checking if a notch on the tensioner arm falls within a couple of notches on the head.

If you start your car when cold and go full lock with the steering wheel and hold it as far as it will go and bounce it off the maximum point you will be putting a large load on the engine, better than having to disengage all them switches afterwards
Arbedark
Had this problem on mine not long ago. Took it into the garage to check it out and after a bit of chatting with my mechanic we decided to book it in to check the cam belt (no history when it came from Japan, so wanted to make sure that it didn't need doing anyway). Turned out that the cam belt had been recently changed and that the altenator belt was the cause of the squeaking. Got it changed and the noise went away. Jellybean
My T Belt was done 30K miles ago, doubth it is that so I reckon it is something like the alternator belt or fan Belt
Chris Wilson
Some makes of auxiliary belt, on some engines, just squeal. I bought some different make belts a couple of years back, totally reputable big name manufacturer, but on 5 out of 10 2JZ engines they would be, or become, noisy. Changed supplier to get the type I used to use and all was well again.
edge
You can get a spray specificly for this BELT LAP or something similar it was called. I would change the belt though.
Chris Wilson
BELT LAP? Sounds like some sort of vexatious claim for personal injury a dodgy punter might bring against the Lovely Legs Lap Dancing Club's owners
jagman
If your battery is low and its cold the battery loads up the alternator after starting drawing high current ,and the belt can slip if not in good nick or tight , will stop once the alternator has replaced some charge in the battery after a few mins - or just charge the battery
Terminator
Rubber hardens with age and at lower temperatures, so a serpentine belt that is absolutely fine in normal conditions can squeal in the cold when the alternator is working its socks off. To rule it our just spray a fine mist of water on the belt if the noise stops and then returns it is just the serpentine belt.
Jellybean
Thanks for all the advice, on start up going home from work after 9 hours her stationary no noise, temp is about 6 so reckon it is just the cold weather but will get it changed in the spring. I reckon more snow is on the way this week so will collect the k10 micra friday, thanks again for the help
