Ricky49
I have been told to have one that seasoned. I was going to buy a new one and I was told to leave it outside to season.

Seasoned is when its gone through many heat cycles over a few years.
Graham S
You thought about speaking to Ash mate, I'm sure he was thinking of fitting a TT head to his NA engine. If you can get complete engine cheap enough you may be able to sort a deal on splitting it?

Chris Wilson
I think this all started when a totally untrue rumour went around that BMW were scouring scrap yards for 200,000 mile old 1602 blocks to make their F1 turbo engines from. Quite where it started I don't know, but it became quite a tenacious urban myth. It has been scotched several times by knowledgeable BMW personnel of the period, including Paul Rorsch and Ulrich Baretzky. I myself would always choose a new block or head casting over a used one, given a choice. I don't think any F1, F2, F3, Le Mans Prototype or any other high end engine builder would choose a used block over a new one unless there were casting issues that only came to light after some of usage. Just my tuppence worth

Just my tuppence worth The BMW museum at the Nurburgring states that F1 blocks came from high mileage road cars.
JamieP
They are going to say its untrue, they would never say an old block is better than a new one they sell, all the same im after a good used block if anyone has one.
Chris Wilson
The sign at the museum is wrong then. Rorsch and Baretzky were in charge of the whole development programme.

pistonbroke
I heard that new engines from toyota had build issues leaving them 'unfinished'. Can't remember the details, but it was something like rough edges on machined parts which then later became the death of its short life.
pedrosixfour
I have a complete spice rack for sale. Buy this from me and a new block then season it yourself? Sorry JP, I have no excuse for that one!
