evinX
Hey all, my sisters car has got a crappy heater, she has to do school runs every morning in the cold etc etc and needs the car to warm up as quick as possible so the little ones can have a nice warm drive. My mums asked me to find a portable one we can get her for christmas, so i thought my best bet would be to ask on here, does anyone have any recommendations beside replacing the heater? thanks, Kev:)

Guigsy
You plug them into the cig lighter to power laptops etc I'm not anexpert but anything that needs to generate heat is going to take a lot of power to do it so probably not wise
johnny g
Cross check the Watt usage of the heater vs the size of the inverter. Also, with the inverter, check the current draw to make sure you won't drain your car battery faster than your alternator can top it up! stevie_b
I don't think they'll be much good. I've got a heater that runs from the ciggy lighter somewhere, and IMO you may as well not bother with it. I can warm up the car faster by farting. It also sounds like a wasp. Not pleasant. What car is it? Sounds like it needs a coolant flush and/or a new heater matrix.
Terminator
Most inverters go to 300 watts so no good for heater. Wrap up warm and walk to school, do them the power of good.
shima60
What about one of them diesel water heaters that come in transit vans? just hook one of them in the boot tell its timer to come on at 7am etc and bish bash bosh warm car in the morning .. My friend has done it in his sierra. Although he is nuts...

nasoup
After reading the reviews for these sort of in car heaters I would say getting up earlier to let the car heat up more is the best option for you sister. Your poor sis, she's suffering the cold and you want to make her wait till xmas befor she gets the heater!

jonathanc
I had one of these in my ancient Charade long ago, my advice would be to forget about it mate unless the technology has moved on. It's noisy as fuk and you barely get any heat. Best advice is to wrap up warmer and maybe pre-heat the car a little before the journey. Or install her one of those alarm systems where you can start car and turn on heating remotely
