Suprash
Right, my gremlin has returned, had this once before, but it seemed to resolve itself, well, until its now come back lol. But basically the car isnt starting again, now when it did it before I checked everything, spark was good, fuel was good, checked all connections on the engine loom, checked all the ECU wiring, it all seemed good, then suddenly one day it started after doing nothing, great I thought, its fixed lol...... Then the other week during the cold I went to run her up to keep out the frost and she started, like last time, run for a minute or two then just cuts out and wont start again. She just continuously turns over ? My mate is saying crank position sensor or cam position sensor ? What does an NA use ? I need to resolve this non-starting issue fairly quickly, Im supposed to be skidding at Mallory on Thursday
Suprash
Anyone, help, please lol, Im no good with these sorts of gremlins
Andy Blyth
It does sound like a crank or cam sensor issue. On the NA, these are in the distributor. Have you checked for error codes? I would expect errors in the trigger sensors to be detected.
Swampy442
Try the fuel pump ECU bypass, might help?

Cant check for error codes, I dont have any dash instrumentation to flash a sequence code through.......plus Im running a Fcon, will that still log errors like the stock ECU ? Try the fuel pump ECU bypass, might help? Im bypassed already, no fuel pump ECU......
Suprash
So if the NA gets its crank & cam positions through the dizzy, 4 wires so I believe, 1 common ground, 1 crank and 2 cam, is it worth earthing the ground, just to eliminate any earthing issues ? Can this sensor fail ? is it worth getting another sensor to eliminate again ?
Swampy442
Thing to do is try to start it again, then whip a spark plug out, if its dry youve got a fuel problem, if its wet then its an ignition snag. Thats what Id do, narrows down your options a bit.

But yes, its trying to figure out the ignition issue, which is my dilema lol
Suprash
Right, Gav gave me a wiring diagram for the ignition side of things, so I now know that the green wire coming off the dizzy is the earth, so Im going to re-earth that and see what I get
Guest ugp
Hook the pc upto to the fcon, surely the software for it will display pulses from either sensor? It does on my emanage anyway.
