Benzsupra
Hi everyone, I have a 98 Vauxhall Astra 1.4, over the last few days the stereo was flickering on and off unless i turned all other electrics off today though i let the car come to an idle at a roundabout and it just died and wouldn't start again. It was sort of like a dead battery as i got dash lights and it tried to turn over but wouldn't. I managed to get a jump start off of someone and it started straight up. It drove fine for the next 10 - 15 mins then i had to turn the heater on as it was getting misty and as soon as the car come to an idle again it cut out. This is obviously an electrical problem, i was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and could tell me weather it's likely to be the alternator or battery that's at fault or something else. Thanks everyone, Ben
Dnk
Check for loose conections first on both the battery and the alternator
Benzsupra
Everything looks tight and in the right place. I don't have a meter i can check to see if the battery is charging with me here but i will go get one lunchtime maybe that will give me some more clues. Will i be looking for a constant voltage while car is running and a lowered voltage when it's off if it's the battery? I am leaning towards battery but it's happened so suddenly and i thought it would show over time if it were the battery... While the car is running it's fine as long as i don't switch anything else on...
