Dnk
My pc's been playing up for ages and is looking like its going to die soon, it over heats and you have to turn it off and leave it for a while then off you go again. I've been told the parts i need to fix it arent available hence buy a replacement My question is what should i replace it with, i have the monitor, keyboard, printer and mouse so thinking of just replacing the tower with the hard drive etc I dont need anything mental you could run NASA with just a decent reliable type and preferably not stupid money either, ive been searching and im more confused than before i started lol i dont want to walk into pc world and just get whatever they want to get rid off this week !! jonathanc
Hmm, first question would be : What is your budget like mate? Edit : That looks like a decent PC but I would only use that for general web browsing and maybe office apps but definitely no modern gaming. I would aim for a slightly bigger HDD though that is a minor issue if the mobo allows more expansions. How about the sound card and ports? Could tell that by the mobo the PC is running. Lots of cheaper PCs around the same spec on eBay as well. I think my mate bought something similiar for his kid recently at that price. Dnk
No real set budget, i just dont want to get something way over what i need and waste a chunk of cash and on the same note something not up to the job, the one i have was put together by a local pc guy, its nothing special and the office stuff in it is an illegal copy. he is no longer around supprise supprise. I dont do gaming or burn cd's, just want it for surfing the web really, storing photo's, watching youtube
DamanC
P4, win XP, 1GB of RAM? Its a bit......well, out of date! You want a custom PC bud, when it gets old you can just upgrade parts rather than binning it

DamanC
Not sure to be honest but i guess it could be 5 yrs Just before the C2D were launched. You were a bit unlucky with that one! What you have posted is probably a like for like with what you already have....
stevie_b
I'm not sure about "they don't make the parts anymore". Might be true, might not be. Overheating might just be caused by a faulty CPU fan or thermal paste, both of which can be replaced for pocket change. It's plausible that replacement parts could cost nearly as much as a decent 2nd hand PC that is more modern than what you've currently got.
