neilp9876
Its amazing the differences of experience. We have around 10 Dell laptops in the office and all are over two years old and have never had an issue. I have Dell pc's at home and all have been fine. My wife has a small Sony 10" laptop which has also never gone wrong and has been dropped more than once. I do know of people with HP's bought from PC world which have been utter garbage. Anyway good luck with your search

IBM/Lenovo is the only one that is relatively bullet proof but you pay the price for reliability.
DamanC
Thanks for the posts peoples. After Damo's post I think I'll go for the Compaq and be done with it..!! H. For the money, its pretty good. Just make sure you keep it clean with regular air dusting. Laptops are all carp to be honest, unless you actually need to take a PC somewhere with you. Matt H
Laptops are all carp to be honest, unless you actually need to take a PC somewhere with you. I used to think that too, but the tech in them nowadays means that for general use, I don't think I'd bother with a desktop again.
Matt H
There seems to be a lot of differing opinions. The best computer I've ever owned was a Time computer - bet there won't be many people saying that!
TonytotheB
Gaming laptops are bloody expensive though and I don't see the point of gaming with Yeah, for daily use a decent i3 with SSD will punish crappy PC world desktops
TonytotheB
Air dusting? Bottled cans of compressed air mate - £5 from Tescos. Comes with little plastic straw to get in those hard to reach places. Don't be afraid to open it up and get inside
Thorin
The best computer I've ever owned was a Time computer - bet there won't be many people saying that! The high end ones weren't too bad at the time. The budget ones you were lucky if they lasted 6 months without something melting on the cheap ass motherboards they used. The budget ones you were lucky if they lasted 6 months without something melting on the cheap ass motherboards they used. Mine was probably a low end one at the time. Never failed on me once and had it for years. Might have been luck of the draw though, as with a lot of tech stuff.
Paul
While we're on the subject of laptops, I'm thinking about the Apple Macbook pro, the 15.4" screen one:) Are these as good as I'm thinking? It's a big outlay, £1500 but I can get one for about £1200 but wouldn't mind a bit of feedback from you guys, good or bad.
neilp9876
I just asked someone I work with whether he thinks his is worth it. He compares it to a Sony Vaio that he had which cost around £800, the macbook needed to be twice as good. In his opinion the screen, build quality, battery and OS actually do make it twice as good. When he needs to run Windows apps he uses a PC emulator on the macbook which he believes is just as fast as an average desktop. I think it comes down to your budget, Apple isnt for me, but they are the premium end of the market. I'd be worried about spending £1500 on a macbook and having the limitations that come with no being able to use windows / PC stuff.
