supra dan
the price of petrol round here has increased twice since snow started last Saturday, its gone up 5p a liter. there should be a law to stop company's taking advantage of people like this, they know they have us over a barrel (literally!) so they can get away with it. bet the price doesn't come down when the snow goes:twak:
marc_p
I gave up complaining, it'll only drive you madder, I've just decided to actively seek for career opportunities in different countries, so far Toronto, Canada looks like a good place to go to as my work has offices there:). EDIT: just for the record, I'm not wanting to leave just because of petrol, there's a long list of things that pi55es me off about this country

Havard
Fill it up and don't drive it like I do. Just polish the car a lot and use it to annoy your neighbours who are not as flash or clever as you. I got 30 days to my last tank of fuel, bargain..!! H. ripped_fear
The problem is that all British people me included just complain about prices yet we do nothing about it, if this happened somewhere like France there would be towns destroyed and car set alight buy now, and within the month the price would be back to cheap not saying this is the right way to go about it though
johnny g
Our fuel is actually cheap - its the taxes on the fuel that is the rip off part. Based on £1.20/ltr, only around 30p litre goes to the fuel companies. Around 63p goes to the Government in fuel duty, a further 18p per litre in VAT, with around 8p per litre for delivery and retailer costs. So, 81p of every litre goes to the Government. marc_p
Petrol is about 39p in the states at the moment, we really do get ass raped on tax in this country.
johnny g
Petrol is about 39p in the states at the moment, we really do get ass raped on tax in this country. Hmm. Current US fuel prices are $2.85/gal - that's a US Gallon. Which is 0.83 of a UK Gallon, so adjust the prices = $3.42/UK Gallon. Price per litre = 75c Exhange rate ~ $1.6:£1 = 47p
Snooze
Problem is that France and other countries like them have a big advantage over us. They are self-sufficient in lots more areas than we are: power production (nuclear), agriculture, etc. Which means that when the government runs into economic problems (which they ultimately do/will as a result of pandering to their populace when they complain), they can just say "Va te faire foutre" to the rest of the EU and the world, jack up their import duty and close borders. Our lack of self-sufficiency and dependence on globally-mobile business (like the so-called "financial services industry") means that we don't have that fall-back without a lot of up-front work, which the government STILL aren't tackling. I think it's going to get a whole lot worse - like Tubby says - £2/L will come round pretty quick. And demonstrating aint going to help - the country simply can't afford to subsidise demographics like motorists and car-fanatics any more. Attero
I always say... enjoy the price as it is now because unless you've invested in a hybrid, electric or hydrogen car, you've got hell to come yet. That tax on the petrol is predicted to increase further for the next few years. And even then, when the tax is reduced, you'll still be seeing sky high prices compared to what we have today. Sit back and enjoy what you have for now. Also, think of it like this. If you are annoyed at paying the extra £30 or so a month that's been added onto your bill, why not give up something that costs that £30 in your monthly payouts. Reduce or stop smoking, take a night off from going out on a piss-up (easily saves you £30 or more), cut buying junk food at lunch times, etc. Remove something that isn't nessecarily fun or healthy, and feed that money into your car instead. I used to go out drinking quite often, but since I've stopped - I find funding for the car so much easier. It's much more fun too.

pedrosixfour
Buy a diesel. You should try running a Supra in this kip. Anyone that does is certifiable. If the car was bought new here then over 30% of it's sticker price was VRT. Then its at about €1300 per year to tax it. Petrol went up 5c today so on average its about €1.35. All that to pick our way around tractors driven by missing links and pot holes that could swallow a transit.
