Dragonball
Something messing with G/F NC10 netbook connections I am trying to load AVG free on her system I suspect it is port settings (?) Tried going through CNET instead and could not download the freebie due to something to do with port settings (?) Connection failed this application requires internet connectivity - if you are using a proxy server please specify the settings below Server Port 80 Have tried all the internet options (inc security and connection options) and looked through the firewall stuff have wireless and 3G modem loaded - all seems ok.. Now my techie knowledge sitting by side of freeway looking for a lift please
Digsy
Can you get to any other websites (i.e. non antivirus related ones like Google and Yahoo)? If its just AV sites that you are having issues with then its possible the virus itself is blocking access. Try to get someone to download the install files onto a CD ROM for you and install from there. It might be worth renaming the files before buring to CD as some viruses can recognise the executables and stop them from running. Don't be tempted to put the installs on a memory stick, as it will get infected itself the second you plug it in.
Thorin
AVG are having a few issues it seems http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/12/02/avg_auto_immune_update/ The latest update has been pulled so this might be why you're having trouble downloading if a replacement version hasn't been released yet. Now might be the time to switch to Avira? I did a couple of years ago after previous AVG cock-ups. http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus

Dragonball
Sorry i dont understand, What do you mean you cant connect to AVG, McAfee etc? Do you mean your having trouble connecting to the internet? I can connect to SOME internet sites - but not the ones that seem to use a particular 'port' (does this make sense?) I have found out she has downloaded another internet connection software which I will try taking off... Ho Hum...
neo2810
All websites run on http port 80, so it's not a port issue. If you mean you are failing when you click on a download link, then that may be a number of things. Have you tried avira instead as suggested above?
