Swampy442
I knew this day would come. Im no scientist but to believe the basis of life in the entire universe being linked to the existance of water is ridiculously narrow minded. http://gizmodo.com/5704158/

mwilkinson
Interesting stuff. This significantly incrases the probability of finding life on other planets, although still likely to be micro organisms.
SupraHuman
I find new life forms every time I wash my Y fronts, don't know if they are arsenic based tho, but well done NASA.
hogmaw
To any microbiologist this is interesting but isn't really the big deal that they are making out. Everything is the same apart from using arsenic instead of phosphorus in the DNA. Look up cyanobacteria, or even anaerobic bacteria for that matter, or other extremophiles for examples of weird stuff.

pedrosixfour
Up until 15 years ago it was scientific law that all life needed sunlight either directly or indirectly, through it's food, in order to survive, no question. Its safe to say we were fairly wrong about that one.

nasoup
This is great news, now we have a much greater chance of finding other life forms, bit boring if they're all micro-sized though.

Swampy442
Its not alien life, its Earth bound, but its proof, if it were needed, that you dont need water to support life. The universe is bigger than any human can comprehend, who's to say that in the billions of galaxies in billions of billions of planets theres not another aresnic based life form saying " wtf, theres actual life that relies on O2" Like I said, current views are narrow minded in the extreme
jazz1
These fools can carry on searching they won't get anywhere they have discovered more planets yet more too discover. There is life beyond us loads of it but these guys no matter what they try will never succed that far beyond. If there is life on this planet then there is life on other planets yet to be discovered, they will no doubt be life like us. Just like the bibles state there's others and other planets beyond our sight

The nearest planet outside our Solar System is 10.5 light years away, it's not like they can just strap on a huge turbo and be able to get there on one tank of fuel. I don't understand your post? Scientists can carry on looking they won't find anything...but there's loads life out there. Just like the bibles state there's others and other planets beyond our sight It must be true then.
