Lbm
The more I think about it the more obvious it becomes. Fifa are accountable to nobody, they're in it for the money, and there is money to be made from building stadiums & infrastructure. There is also money to be made from bribery and selling dodgy tickets. None of which can be done if the WC was held in a developed country ie the UK. The Qatar decision is mystifying. Football played in SUMMER in the MIDDLE EAST? What the phuck are they thinking? Oh I forgot, they have plenty of CASH. Re: Qatar; To be fair, it will be a nice treat for its 600,000 residents. Guigsy
Football is a world game, there is no reason why it should go to any country that held it before. Btw, it was an England bid, not a British or UK bid as Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have their own football teams. If it really cost £430 million to make a bid (ie, the cost of a large new hospital) then someones head should role for wasting obscene amounts of money when England is already getting the Olympics in 2012. For those of you who think that England has the 21st century infrastructure which allows the large movement of fans from venue to venue, wake up and smell the coffee! seems to cope with moving 100's of thousands if not millions of fans arround each weekend
Abz
Guys, we can all moan about corruption but the honest truth is we can't handle it. I came to Zurich today (not only for this FIFA vote) and our transport system is crippled with a bit of snow. I can understand Scotland, parts of Kent and other places similar but London had hardly any snow, surrounding area's hardly had any snow but still all the trains coming into London broken down. The underground (yes the tube) broke down on me whilst I was making a journey from City Airport (Which closed the runway since they opened at 5am) to the office. When Blackwall Tunnel closes, the whole of East London (Olympics) comes to a halt (referring to roads here). We have gone over budget so much Olympics we have lost count and us Londoners are having to foot the bill. With regards to £430 million to make a bid, surely the judges don't need to be bribed that much What in the hell was the £430 million used for, surely they just needed some flights, hotels, a bit of cardboard and a transcript for David. Managed it back in 1996 but with the way the recession has hit us, I don't think it would be a good idea.
jim
Whats hard to swallow is how we finished rock bottom of our bid, whats hard to swallow is a country with next to feck all interest in Football can get it. Qatar is HIGH risk, Russia is full to the brim with racists, i can hardly wait. There was a quote on the 606 forum that after a match there maybe so many bananas thrown on the pitch it will look more like a super mario game. With that in mind, is it not better then that Russia get it if it means that it will generate more interest in football within their country, and maybe the message that racism isn't acceptable in football (or anywhere else for that matter obviously) will start to be communicated there and actually begin to sink in with some people? Cant see it happening but i maybe proved wrong. Have done some more reading on the voting etc and i am still fuming about it. England, USA and Australia were fitted up like kippers. Qatar FFS is about a million in the shade that time of year, Australia should have won that hands down, plus they were "low risk" Blatter, the little bitter horrid skank of a human hates the English with a passion, i bet he is still laughing his warts off at us for wasting all that money when the Russians knew they had it in the bag. Now, if you will excuse me, i am going to find something small and fluffy to kick around for a bit.
