What did that thick *ugger Beckham say in his speech? "We love football, it brings people together". Yeah, right it does:

We should forget about playing football, and get the country sorted out first.

Here, here!! You've been ranting quite a bit lately Chis. I take it you despair of the country in general at the moment?

The inability of the countries populace to deal with a little dusting of snow, the state of the economy, excessive immigration, a lot of it illegal, taxation, the state of the public hospitals, the compensation culture, the fear of upsetting "travellers" that local councils exhibit, the cost of fuel. I can go on (and on, and on...). Who wouldn't rant? :)

You're sounding more and more like my grandma each day. :)

I am a big football fan but £430 million spent on a failed bid in the current climate is a bit hard to swallow!:faint:

Whats hard to swallow is how we finished rock bottom of our bid, whats hard to swallow is a country with next to feck all interest in Football can get it.

Qatar is HIGH risk, Russia is full to the brim with racists, i can hardly wait. There was a quote on the 606 forum that after a match there maybe so many bananas thrown on the pitch it will look more like a super mario game.

Alot of people on here take defeat far too easily!

Well, there's no point sulking over a victory that probably was just never going to happen for us.

It's a shame for our economy and maybe even for the country, but we move on.

Other countries also lost today. I'm sure it's massively disappointing for some of their residents too.

Perhaps Russia will do a fine job?

Na Zdravi Comrade.

Linguistically, I had to revert to Czech lingo as Russian dosen't really have the equivalent of cheers.

the bit the bbc did during the show about how racist the russian fans are was interesting.

i can see a lot of teams getting pissed off.

seb blatter or however you spell his name was bigging up the england bid just before he announced it. "and the home of football, England" went on about it a few times...

we only got 2 votes... thats truely shocking.

there should be a rotation system. 10 countries. and it goes round and arround in a rotation. then every 4 or 8 years fifa can vote to kick a team out of the rotation or perhaps as a penilty for poor behaviour (like france last year) then other countries can bid to get into the rotation then they have to wait there turn.

personaly a world cup in quatar doesnt appeal to me at all. its not a vastly populated place with loads of cities is it? south africa was a bit of a stretch... lets be honest. didnt they build one of the stadiums in a small town? i seem to remember them talking about it on the tv. honestly i dont know much about the country (quatar), have they even qualified for any world cups? it cant be a popular sport in the country surely? sure there will be money there. but i can imagine stadiums being built in towns where the capacity of the stadium is higher than the town population :p

after a bit of reading they only play 18 games a season... so only 9 teams? so they are going to build all these stadiums and then after the world cup moves on nobody is going to use them. :

russia i think is an interesting choice and im sure they will give us a good competition. its a big country with a half decent team. with a good passion for football.

but lets all be honest. for passion for the game. only the italians beat us. and for us to host a world cup would take less money and effort than fkin quatar.

it was interesting that putin didnt turn up. but now they have won it was obvious... he didnt bloody need to. nice to see mr moneybagsovich turned up to see his investment get what he wanted tho ;)

The more I think about it the more obvious it becomes. Fifa are accountable to nobody, they're in it for the money, and there is money to be made from building stadiums & infrastructure. There is also money to be made from bribery and selling dodgy tickets. None of which can be done if the WC was held in a developed country ie the UK.

The Qatar decision is mystifying. Football played in SUMMER in the MIDDLE EAST? What the phuck are they thinking? Oh I forgot, they have plenty of CASH.

Football is a world game, there is no reason why it should go to any country that held it before.

Btw, it was an England bid, not a British or UK bid as Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have their own football teams.

If it really cost £430 million to make a bid (ie, the cost of a large new hospital) then someones head should role for wasting obscene amounts of money when England is already getting the Olympics in 2012.

For those of you who think that England has the 21st century infrastructure which allows the large movement of fans from venue to venue, wake up and smell the coffee!
