Guest Sakura
What sort of dust is it? Do you have an open chimney? Have you got pets? Have you had any structural work done recently? Do you smoke? The best ways I can think of to reduce dust are: a) Open all the doors and windows and let fresh air blow through - regularly. b) Steam clean carpets and curtains. c) Use damp cloths on dusty surfaces like TVs, furniture etc. Dry dusting just moves the dust around. d) Get an ioniser - they attract all the negatives ions (like dust) to one place. I sound almost domesticated!

If it is the whole house, you may need more than one ioniser. Check around for ebay bargains, because you will need one in each room and to clean them regularly. They do work though. tbourner
Also, get an empty spray bottle (Mr Muscle or something) and fill it with water, spray that around and it traps the dust and drags it to the floor - obviously you'll still need to vacuum. dangerous brain
I have a similar problem. the house is over 100 years old and nowt I do seems to sort it out really. I'm sure that there are certain brands of vacuum cleaners that claim to remove dust particulate from the air. I also think that Saab ran an advertising campaign along the lines that the air that came out the exhaust of the particular model was cleaner than that which went in and that it even removed pollen, you could park the car in the house and leave it running see if that works As for WSB2 don't worry he'll calm down after his wine gums wear off. SilverMachine
Maybe the underlay is that old it's turned to powder, and each time you walk on it the dust escapes! If you have concrete floors it's worse. Try lifting a corner of your carpet (or get someone without the allergy to do it) just to see the condition it's in where you walk most. Good luck, Gaz

SilverMachine
silver machine, dont take this the wrong way, but you taking the piss?? Graham, In response to your question, NO, I'm not taking the pi**. If you're not aware how walking on carpet can, and will transform a rubber backed underlay to powder over the years, might I suggest this has just been a learning curve for you. Likewise, trainers are the worse things to rip up the pile on all carpets. I'm only trying to help someone that might have overlooked the fact that when he walks around his home, dust appears constantly. Carpet underlay seem one logical solution. It may not be the right one, but a simple check could rule it out. If you are curious to know how I came to this possible conclusion, I phoned my uncle to ask him the question and he offered me his 35years worth of carpet fitting experience.
