Which computer monitor?

I'm looking to buy a computer monitor for home use.

I've presently got a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 720 which has got a good pic but sometimes the picture just fades away and I'm having to thump it to keep it working.

I was thinking about replacing it with a standard CRT monitor, this one caught my eye - Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 - 19" about £230.

Just been looking on this other forum and quite a few people have had problems with distorted and blurry edges on the screen, don't know what to do now?

I think the CRT's are still supposed to give better pics than most TFT's, but a TFT's is much more energy efficient.

Any recommendations, I'm just going around in circles - around £230 17" or 19" - :thanks:

Hi

Last week I upgraded from a CRT to TFT and brought a Viewsonic VX912 19" 12ms 500:1 from E-buyer. Like you I was a bit sceptical about the TFT picture but I am really impressed with this...! It was £250 inc Vat + delivery.

Any questions let me know.

Cheers

TFT's are great if

1. You run them at their native resolution,i.e. if it says it will run at 1600 x 1200 - run it at that res, if everything is to small make the fonts bigger, etc. Running a TFT screen at a lower res will make it look really poor quality.

2. You're not to serious about art work cause when you move your head around you'll find that the colours and contrasts change. The screens are getting better, but a CRT will give you much more consistent colours.

3. Need more room.

Go for a 19" if you can cause you'll get a bigger image at the same resolution. Oh and be warned it could turn up with dead pixels.

Overall you won't regret getting a TFT.

Thanks MRX , I've just been looking on the Overclockers forum and got my shortlist down to about 4. The Viewsonic VX912 is one of them , it comes highly recommended.

Thanks Shovels, I did consider going for a 19" instead of a 17" but I thought if I spent the same I would probably get a better quality 17", if I went for the 19" I would be paying for the size increase.

Not sure really, not many decent shops to go to and compare.

I was reading that it's sometimes possible to massage the dead pixels away! ;)
