edinlexusV8
I dont think I am deviating ... if all of the corporations mentioned above only do open source software then your argument is right. But as you mentioned they only release some of the software's code or just do some projects in open source. All of the above mentioned companies have their own proprietary software which they dont release the code for. Also this thread is about Flash player, I have no idea why the argument is about MS! JustGav
I dont think I am deviating ... You made the comment CRAP Corporation ?? ... well I think you are ignorant. I am not a promoter of MS. I use a lot of other stuff from other companies. But, Do you really know why you hate MS? Coz it charges you for their software? Coz they dont give you their code by not being OPEN SOURCE? And I said I have zero problem with companies being open-source or not, never have done, the tool that suits the job gets used IMHO. I just don't have a MS toolbox to do EVERY job as I don't believe they are the ONLY provider. To qualify that.... A halfords spanner and a mac tools spanner do the same job, why get the mac tools one EVERY time when the cheaper (and sometimes MORE suitable) option exists. Also this thread is about Flash player, I have no idea why the argument is about MS! See post #11 And back-pedal.... Job here is done
edinlexusV8
Re-read your posts, they are pretty much all directly copied from MS marketing material... LOOK CLOSELY and remove the blinkers I am not doing any marketing for MS. I am only pointing that MS dont deserve the bashing it gets for ALL of its products. I found about Flash Beta and started this thread, so that you guy may share your experiences. Open source does not mean free by any means! There are some large BI products that I use that are open source but charge a licensing/support fee (Oracle being one of them as it happens, and yes for some products Oracle DOES release their source, so check your statements carefully) I know open source does not not mean free software all the time. I know the server software is not free but the desktop one is. My question was directed to RedM about why he hates MS? Is it becoz it charges for its software? and this is incorrect in the strictest sense, Android may well be the OS underneath but the handset manufacture has put their own UI on it, HTC for example use sense, and samsung do their own as well... Dude HTC sense was running on WinMob 6 and 6.5 before it came on Android. Again you dont get my question here. It is about companies developing some buggy software in the first instance and getting better versions later. Which is the case with Andriod. This is fair enough, IE certainly has had more than it's fair share of the bug quota though. Well IE as a product from MS deserves a good bashing for not making a decent product and still making it part of OS install. Yes, ever heard of Darwin? Heard about it. Doesn't mean apple is all open source. Actually, yes, MySQL source code is out there VirtualBox is also open source Well I worked on Oracle Databases in the past and I can tell you it is not developed on MySQL. So MySQL being opensource doesn't mean Oracle is. Adobe do have some code out there, but I'm not heavily involved enough to comment, so you can have that one. Indeed, but there comes a time when someone KEEPS going on about the wonderful this and wonderful that, that is becomes rather obvious that they are blinded by loyality/devotion/fandom that they don't see something outside that sphere. Well as I said again, I am not a fanboy but I think MS do not deserve the amount of bashing it gets in here.

I found about Flash Beta and started this thread, so that you guy may share your experiences. Respectfully, I disagree, the impression in your posts is that you do (Cooooould be wrong though ) See here -> http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?209238-Microsoft-s-View-of-the-Future-(WARNING-high-geek-content) I know open source does not not mean free software all the time. I know the server software is not free but the desktop one is. My question was directed to RedM about why he hates MS? Is it becoz it charges for its software? I'll let him answer that then, and I'll butt out Dude HTC sense was running on WinMob 6 and 6.5 before it came on Android. Again you dont get my question here. It is about companies developing some buggy software in the first instance and getting better versions later. Which is the case with Andriod. Yeah, I know I've got a touch diamond here which runs on winmo and it is AWFUL!!!!! I'm in the telco space so phones are something I get good access to. Well IE as a product from MS deserves a good bashing for not making a decent product and still making it part of OS install. Crap product, brilliant marketing embedding it in the the core product, can't argue that. MS have been good at marketing, product positioning and infiltration, won't disagree with that, that doesn't however mean it is a good product IMHO. Also, see here -> http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?212733-IE9-Beta&highlight=ie9 Heard about it. Doesn't mean apple is all open source. and likewise with the microsoft products and round and round we go Well I worked on Oracle Databases in the past and I can tell you it is not developed on MySQL. So MySQL being opensource doesn't mean Oracle is. I currently still work with both Oracle and Mysql for different areas, once again, the tool needs to suit the job. Your statement -> Does oracle give you their code for their Database software? And since Oracle own Mysql the answer is yes (Tenious I'll grant you, but it is a fact ) Well as I said again, I am not a fanboy but I think MS do not deserve the amount of bashing it gets in here. look at it this way, if someone came on here and went, I think skoda's are better than supras, then they would probably get the same reaction, and people here wouldn't think they are fanbois defending the supra.... But step outside the circle and look in
edinlexusV8
Well we can go back and forth on this but I am only defending my position when somebody here called MS a CRAP company buy generalizing everything about MS. Surely MS have done something right than the opensource group to have 90% of the desktops running their OS. You analogy of comparing Skodas and Supra doesnot sit right with MS and Apple (desktop oses n mob oses) or MS and Google (search, mob oses, browsers and cloud) or MS and SUN (oses and office suits) or MS and Java (.NET and Java Platforms) or MS and Oracle (For databases) or MS and Sony (for gaming consoles) ... Probably you should know by now where I am going with your analogy. Both Skoda and Toyota make only cars so you can compare them. But MS makes a lot of products which other companies dont ...so calling a whole company and all of it products CRAP is not necessary and undeserved. And because I point this out I dont have to be a fanboi and you dont have to change my thread tags all the time.
JustGav
Well we can go back and forth on this but I am only defending my position when somebody here called MS a CRAP company buy generalizing everything about MS. When you aggressively defend the position of a company you are more than likely in their employment or you are a fanboi. It is MS's position, not yours... and that is the point. Surely MS have done something right than the opensource group to have 90% of the desktops running their OS. Yeah, they did, not arguing that point at all (although not 100% sure on the 90% figure) You analogy of comparing Skodas and Supra doesnot sit right with MS and Apple (desktop oses n mob oses) or MS and Google (search, mob oses, browsers and cloud) or MS and SUN (oses and office suits) or MS and Java (.NET and Java Platforms) or MS and Oracle (For databases) or MS and Sony (for gaming consoles) ... Probably you should know by now where I am going with your analogy. Both Skoda and Toyota make only cars so you can compare them. But MS makes a lot of products which other companies dont ...so calling a whole company and all of it products CRAP is not necessary and undeserved. It does.... Very much so....I'll repeat, if someone comes on here singing the pros of another car other than a supra, then it would be expected that some people would go 'WHAT? NO, the supra is bestest car ever made'.. and so forth. The fact that you quote MS in EVERY single debate adds more fuel to the MS devotion/koolaid/etc.... And because I point this out I dont have to be a fanboi and you dont have to change my thread tags all the time. That is true, but it is amusing (And strictly speaking, I didn't edit your tags, but rather added more)

Well first of all I have not come in here YET ;-) and I was only singing pros about Flash Player beta and someone here comes along and calls me a fanboi and calls MS a CRAP crop, predicts that I will get a Macbook or iPhone, and somebody else changes the tags for the thread then I have to defend my position. Even though this is just another silly banter still I have to do that.

Aaah yes, and on this note it is time for me to actually go home Don't feel too bad, I'm currently playing with an iphone 4 *shudder* with a view to replacing my HTC desire... (needless to say the iphone isn't winning just yet...), my linux laptop is crafted to look like a mac (just to annoy one of the mac fanbois in the office), and I have a windows and linux desktop connected via synergy since I need both setups really for work. And yes, I've installed Flash player Beta to see if it is any good

JustGav
Hmmm, okay initial win7 32bit tests don't show any improvement. Will test on 64bit ubuntu 10.10 shortly. I suspect content may need to be a specific kind. My tests are done using a streaming site. Previous flash version New beta version

JustGav
Stage Video hardware acceleration — A new method for video playback in Flash Player will allow developers to leverage complete hardware acceleration of the video rendering pipeline, enabling best-in-class playback performance. Stage Video can dramatically decrease processor usage and enables higher frame rates, reduced memory usage, and greater pixel fidelity and quality. And there in lies the issue, as beta I can't see many sites going for it straight away....
Thorin
Flash sucks! Silverlight is far superior!!1! My work here is done.
Attero
Silverlight = Microsoft. I'm going to be honest... I've probably only ever seen 1 Silverlight "application" since it's release. I don't see the point in trying to destroy Flash.
edinlexusV8
Silverlight = Microsoft. I'm going to be honest... I've probably only ever seen 1 Silverlight "application" since it's release. I don't see the point in trying to destroy Flash. Yeah you are right, there is not a lot happening with Silverlight in UK. But in US they used that technology to stream Winter Olympics last time around and also the Olympics in China to various US channels. The WP7 phone is totally build on Silverlight. There is also xBox update coming soon and everything will be in Silverlight. The browser already does silverlight and the desktop has its big brother on it called WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation). You can see it in in full action when you install Zune or WMC (Windows Media Centre). This is MS convergence strategy. Thing is it is not a competitor for Flash player as many people say it is. It is a misconception. It can do some of the stuff flash can do and many it cannot. Also same is true in the reverse. It has a few features that are Flash dont. It is only competing with one technology Adobe Flash AIR.

Angarak
I've seen Silverlight used to create online magazines/catalogues with animated curling pages, though I dont have it installed anymore as it is no where near as popular as the likes of flash.
