Just over one year and 1650 miles and a £50,000 depreciation

Whilst people bemoan rising insurance quotes for their beloved cars, spare a thought for the poor sap who is selling his Aston Martin V12. After just over a year and a mere 1,650 miles (hell, it's not even run in and not far off what would have been considered delivery mileage of old...) he faces a £50,000 depreciation. The joy of ownership of this overweight, over complicated piece of British motoring extravaganza must have been somewhat curtailed by this. I can't see him raising his glass to his shrewd investment talents :)

Must be good to be able to afford a loss of more than what most people can afford to buy with.

Strange that the person is selling though. I wouldn't have thought buying a car like that and then selling a year later would be very clever, possibly forced though.

Agreed! I've seen driveways up here with 500-600k worth of cars...most of which just sit there posing! Some people have far too much cash!

I'm just jealous! Lol

Yeah there's a V8 Vantage that's always on a drive round the corner from me. It's always there and really dirty. Whenever I see it I get the urge to wash it and take it for a spin :)

The owneer is probably shitting money anyway..!!

Works out at over £30 a mile before you think about fuel and insurance etc. Wonderful.

I'll pick a V8 Vantage when the depreciation stops...!!

Come to mine and we can nick the one off the drive* round the corner, they probably won't notice anyway :)

Totally agree. I'll add a disclaimer.

Whenever I watch the police pursuit programs and they show a helicopter following a stolen car, I think why not just have a police sniper in there take out the driver, then let the ground units take out his mates, job done.

Yeah exactly. If you steal a car and are caught it should be automatic castration. If you're not caught then karma should cause you to lose a ball in the hinges of a door or something.

When Aston Martins were totally independent they were like most low production cars, pretty dire, and most things were "adjusted" by hand on the production line, making body repairs, or even a screen change, the stuff of nightmares. the Tadek Marek straight six was a good engine, very Jaguar like. The early V8 was a jewel, and very powerful with almost 2JZ reserves of strength. Dude will know David Martin of Austec, he has done a lot of development of both the straight six engines and the various iterations of the early V8 units, which I think are as much a gem as the Toyota 2JZ engines. The DB5 my mother had was OK, quite fast in its day (1965) but by the early seventies it was nothing special, performance wise, she just liked the shape and the colour, which was about as far as her criteria for buying a car went :)

No idea what current ones are like, but I distrust any low volume car, if people are totally honest they are all quirky, with things that need further refinement, development or simply totally re thinking. Whether you call these things faults or character usually depends if you actually have one, or have just sold one for a big loss :)

Wuss.. :D

I do see it as a waste of money though because I've seriously only not seen it there a couple of times and I drive past there every few days and they've had it about 2 years.

Are you sure it's not someone visiting.....lol..!!

You could say the same about my Supra. Bought it in September, it's done 1600 miles since I got it and 500 of them were going to and from Jurgens to have extra work done.

The car hardly moves, especially in this weather.

It's always there, in the same place, covered in dirt. It may be someone visiting but it's always in the same place so I'd assume is the home owners' car. I could be wrong though. Maybe they only drive it at night :p

Sorry, just re-read your post. I meant I've only seen it missing a couple of times. Not that it's only been there a couple of times :D
