SupraDan24
Hi guys, i've been a smoker for the last 8 years now, and after thinking about it for ages, i finally decided to quit last week. This is the first time ive really "wanted" to quit, so i'm really committed to seeing it through, mainly for health reasons rather than social. Today is day number 8, and tbh, up until now its been fairly easy....up until now that is. Really starting to feel the pinch over the last 48hrs. I'm hoping once i get through this next week and a half offshore that it'll get easier. What i want to know is, is there anybody on here who has successfully quit smoking after being a full time smoker? If so, how did you find it, and do you have any words of advice? I think reading a few success stories might help keep me on the straigh and narrow and remind me how important it is. Thanks Dan
Miguel
Yup, quit 3 years ago after smoking for 14 years and haven't looked back. Best move I ever made. I did it the old fashioned way, and best way IMO, good old will power. It can be tough at the beginning, but the prospect of tasting food properly and having clean lungs is definitely a good payoff. Hang in there, you'll wonder why you ever started soon. You'll also have some more cash in your pocket too;-) P.S Keep busy, it's when you're sitting idle and thinking that the craving will hit you the worst. Josh
I quit last November after smoking about 10 a day for 3/4 years. I had a chest infection so couldn't smoke for a week then when I was better I had a drag on a fag and it made me feel sick. I then decided to quit. It was surprisingly easy considering all of my friends smoke.

Dnk
30 years of approx 20 a day if you want to quit just stick with it, i didnt use patches or any other aids but i was given a good start as i had viral pneumonia and couldnt smoke if i'd wanted to. It gets much easier as you go and im now on 1 year and 3 + months without a ciggy Stick with it

SupraDan24
I find it one of the most disgusting and ignorant things anyone can do personally..!! H. Dont hold back will you haha Cheers for the inspiration guys, i really really dont want to smoke anymore so hopefully i've got a good chance at keeping at this. I chose to quit offshore purposefully as the rig i'm on doesnt sell cigs/tobacco so i wouldnt have the urge to nip down the corridor and grab some. If you want to put yourself off them big time, try smoking one back to front. I dropped a cig in my car in the dark a cpl years ago, picked it up, lit it without looking and got a lung full of burnt filter. Worst taste/feeling ever. Rank doesnt cover it lol. I did that once when drunk with all my friends telling me it was wrong way round. I didn't listen. Took a drag and wasted a fag. It wasn't that bad. I was drunk as a bugger though
Dnk
Another tip is smell the breath of someone who's just had a ciggy, it shocked me as to how much it stinks and cant believe i was probably the same for 30 years !!!!

evinX
Ive been smoking for 4 years, and last month my best mates dad past away due to cancer that literally spread all over and eventually to his brain, may he rip. Now that really scared the sh!t out of me seeing where smoking can get you, i used to smoke 20 a day, maybe more. Since then ive halfed it and im cutting it out slowly, as i know ill be weak if i go cold turkey, so far im on less than 10 a day, and next week im going to take it to 4 a day, lets do this:D

Your right though, it does get easier and easier as time goes by, i barely even think about it anymore. Not sure how much i've saved, i've spent a crap load on my Supe the last 2 months so i'll just call that my ciggie money haha.

I've spent more than what i've saved from smoking for sure, but at least i havent spent that amount with the smoking bill ontop Plus...i will have something to show for it....instead of a degenerative disease.
