randy
I have used the TRD single plate clutch (pressure plate and disk) for less than 3500 miles and it has already started to slip? I recomend anyone upgradiing a clutch to get the strongest/ best clutch available esp if you are at BPU ++ OR single turbo. As you will land up spending more money on clutch jobs evey 6 months!! Planning to get the HPF 6 puck clutch and the RPS lightened billet flywheel. Will it be OK to re-use the TRD pressure plate I have on now? As the foot pressure on the clutch is strong. GavinL
You must have given it some very serious abuse to ruin that clutch in such a short time or investigate your rear crank oil seal in case it is leaking and causing slippage. A standard clutch is okay for BPU++ unless you are at the dragstip a lot IMO As for the TRD pressure plate, speak to HPF and no one else. Nic
I wore out a new toyota clutch in less than 20,000km running 1-1.3bar, the clutch gots a lot of use though driving in traffic in HK. I fitted a twin plate TRD clutch/flywheel about 6,000km ago which really handles the power well, but is heavy to operate and noisy at tickover. I'm impressed with the performance of the TRD clutch to handle the power but for everyday driving especially in traffic it can get a bit anoying as it is not very forgiving and takes some care to drive smoothly, it also makes hill start a b*tch! What clutches are others using, any recommendations??
Adam W
I did weeks of research on clutches for my boosted Mk3, and ended up with a Clutchmasters unit, with full face kevlar driven plate. Very easy to drive, and no problems are apparent at 5000 miles or so. If they make a similar unit for the MkIV it would be worth investigating. Thor
Leon is selling full kevlar clutches for the MKIV.
Alex
I'd go with Gav on this...sounds like the clutch was either installed poorly and has aged premeturely or somrthing else is causeing the slip. To burn it out in 3,500 I would imagine every single journey was filled with the smell of clutch burning!!! EDIT - RPS clutches are supposed to be easy to drive. The Blitz one comes with a light flywheel, as does the twin plate TRD unit. An RPS Stage 3 Sprung hub clutch can use lightweight flywheels such as the Muller and Unorthadox racing one. Thor
Alex my RPS one destroyed my Mueller flywheel & was like a light switch on take off. Kevlar is the way to go. I now have a Kevlar/Metallic one & it is soooo much better than my RPS 6 puck. Terry
Alex
How exactly does a clutch knacker a flywheel???
Paul Whiffin
Just use an RPX max series with street disc, no need for anything else, thats what I have use for the last 20,000 miles, still no slip whatsoever with the single turbo on, very impressive if you ask me. Drives like a standard clutch, just a bit heavier. If you want one Randy let me know as I can arrange it for you.

randy
Yeah, I had a bit of clutch burn smell when I used to floor it for the last month. I have used it for a couple of drag meets about 6 - 1/4 mile hard launches. But in general I have been quite carefull not to slip the clutch when I drive from a stop. I would not want to get another clutch that burns easily so, I need something that can handle quite a bit of HP and a few drag runs. Would I need a new flywheel? Or can I dry turn the fly-wheel? Is it advisable? Is the RPS billet flywheel a good one to buy? Also do you have to change the pressure plate? Mine is pretty new and the pressure is still the same.
