Does Anybody On Here Work In, Or Has Worked In Recruitment? - Experiences Required

I'm currently in the process of switching jobs, due to growth and development purposes as my current job seems to have reached a dead end and have put my CV on Monster.co.uk. As my current job is in Sales I have had a lot of recruitment companies contacting me asking for interviews etc. Now, I have never looked into recruitment before and it seems like a reasonable profession (I'm sure many will have mixed views on it) as there is money to be made and experience to be obtained. I also understand it can be very hard work, as nothing ever comes easy in the world of employment.

Having had another interview today (which went rather well, according to me) the gentleman interviewing me (also the Director of the company) seemed to like me as a person, my experience and my degree was also relevant to what he was looking for. He has asked me to find out about some peoples experiences within recruitment and to relay some questions to him as he wants me to know what difficulties people have faced etc. sort of like 'The Real World of Recruitment'.

The reasoning behind it all is so I can make myself more aware of the difficulties of the job and if interested let him know I'm up for it, rather than just saying 'yes' then a month or two later realise I don't like it and leave.

Guess that pretty much sums it up - Any words of wisdom appreciated. :)

I have a good friend who was in recruitment. As I see it now the arse has fallen out of it. But he did ok. They are going to switch the machine off soon as he did sooooooooo well he got into alot of bad shit and his body said NO!! Good quick money but be very careful of the circles yo end up in. Good luck.

Anyone else with any recruitment experiences? :search:

I can't imagine recruitment is any more difficult than selling anything else - houses, cars, boats, sex workers etc. Selling, afterall, is nothing more than a transfer of enthusiasm.

Like property, however, it is seen as more of a 'profession' than a 'job' - meaning you can spend a lot of time getting it right, before figuring out that it's not what you're after.
