Racing is different Chris, you've then got another car to get you home.

I've had the supra fishtail a couple of times and I'm still a bit weary.

I wouldn't want to be going fast in the wet without a 4x4 --- am I getting soft? he he...

I like driving in the wet anywhere to be honest. It's easy to have a car handle failry well on dry roads, it takes a spot on set up to shine in the wet. I always think of the rain as a good leveller of driver ability, but a true spotlight on chassis set up. A car that's a dream to drive in the wet is usually superb in the dry. I have to admit that an automatic MKIV TT is not the first RWD to car to buy for anyone who has come from FWD. I cringe when i see the local boy racers driving the local roundabouts in their FWD cars, as I just know what's going to happen when they "borrow" or buy a powerful RWD car. There's a whole generation of young drivers who never driven a RWD car, yet who think they know it all. Scary... :) But good for bodyshops and A&E staff wanting overtime.

I've had mine checked for all angles and they're all pretty spot on (save for right front caster)

Shocks are billies, bushes are newish or look OK and wheels are stock --- so it can't be shoddy by supra standards, can it?

It does tramline a bit, but I hear that they all do it (!?)

Chris I've been riding bikes for a very long time, so it might be fair to say that I am sort of familiar with the concept of RWD.

Actually it's the "auto" element that I feel funny about, rather than RWD.

I'm used to having total control of what gear I'm in, when (and how) I upshift or downshift.

This auto malarky leaves me unimpressed, sometimes I don't even know what gear it's in.

It is so overprotective that it uses 1st gear very rarely. Usually it tries to start in 2nd, which is equivalent to 3rd of manual gearboxes. No wonder it felt sluggish when I first drove a TT.

Maybe its a UK spec thing, but my J-spec is always dropping down into 1st gear, when I'd expect other auto 'boxes to stay in 2nd, or 3rd even.

I find it changes up quickly from 1st, unless you floor it, or just hold it manually. ;)

It just takes a bit of getting used to.

Once you learn what the box is going to do in a certain situation, you can take the correct action to ensure that it does what you want, instead.

The *rate* of throttle movement also affects the way the autobox performs the gearchanges - it's not just the throttle position or kickdown.

I've just found out that the sequential 'symphony' timing is also altered if the throttle is flat out.
