Electronic Power Steering Conversion....

I was just thinking about this the other day, has anyone done a conversion to change their PS pump to a electric one?

The only reason why it crossed my mind is that on my Ford focus the steering has 3 settings, Comfort, Normal and Sport. Now this only adjusts how much fluid the motor pumps but i wondered if a MR2 Electric PS pump could be retrofitted to the Supra Rack and what would be involved in doing this?

It seems to be a popular conversion on RX7 owners - http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=847818

If it could be done what kind of trickery and magic would have to be invloved in changing the flow rates for steering settings.

This is all probably really pointless but i was just sat here wondering and thought i would ask.

Yes ofcourse the time of the year when you want to be DRIVING your car.

Good call D! :D

I know there is a trade off but I find a week in the summer is worth about a month in the winter. Maybe that is just me and my TOTAL lack of enthusiasm at this very moment for what lies ahead of me! But your arguement doesn't hold much water with me anyway, I'll be out on track come January in the frost and ice, it was great fun last year!

Richard,

I was originally planning to do this as part of my build, but have so much to do, this will never get included.

I have an MR2 electric power steering pump, loom, etc. and a new 180amp alternator with 7MGTE bracket.

If you want almost everything you would need to go electric, contact me, I will accept a sensible offer.

Did the cold reality of my labour saving offer to transform prattle into a project reality make you swoon with appreciation?

Or are you just lacking the courtesy to respond with a thanks but no thanks, I was merely prattling?

Excuse me!

Some people are busy mate, and dont always look at every single thread they have either started or commented on.

If you wanted me to see you offer within 4 days then you could of PM'd me notifying me of it.

There no need to get funny with me as i didnt respond to a comment you posted only 4 days ago!

Rich

Oh before i forget .... thank you for your offer but no thanks.

11 minutes !

That'll be the second option then ;)

I only remembered this post as i saw it pop up on the main forum page because you posted today.

So thought i would have take a look, i didnt even know you had posted an offer to me as i had not checked.

After reading the thread I was going to respond to your offer with an offer, however when i got to your follow up comment that you posted today i felt it was pretty rude IMO so you can keep it.

I am not sure what your issue is really, stating the above (quoted) is just childish and pathetic.

just a thought, the supras have a power steering solenoid that controls the pressure in the steering rack, so as to reduce power steering effort at higher speeds, there must be a way of altering the signal from the ecu to the solenoid to change the feel at what speed you want?. or alter the speed signal to the steering ecu will do the same? regards Chris
