As the title states the whole unit where the oil warning lights come on is not working!! ive checked for dry joints on the unit and there fine, also put a vault metre over it and its all fine! ive checked the fuse box in the drivers footwell as well as the main one in the engine bay, they are all fine!! any other ideas as to what it could be?? Or could it be just a random electrical fault thats goin to turn into a needle in a haystack!!

Classic symptom of dry solder joints - just redo the joints and it will be all good

To elaborate a litle when you take that little light section out (its a couple of phillips screws holding it in from memory) you'll see a bunch of Lshaped bars going into the circuit board. Its where the bars go into the board that they get detached from the solder joint at the board. A quick dab of a soldering iron and flux should set them back properly.

Did you check the voltage at the pins in the connector block or in the wires (i.e. before the connector)?

Try using a sharp pin pushed (carefully!) into the wire and checking to see if there is voltage going to the connector. Check between the connector and ground. Since all the wires are switched to ground when the lights are on I would imagine that only one of the wires will actually read +12V. If you don't have +12V on any of the wires then there must be a break or fault deeper inside the dash. If you have +2V on a wire but not at the connector then re-make the connection to that pin.

I re-made all the connections on my block because every time I took the dash out that unit would fail to operate unless I wiggled the loom. I also added about 6 inches extra cable length to put less strain on the cables. Its been no bother since.

I've put a vault meter over the block in the piture and not getting anything, does this mean i am going to have to take the whole dash off so that i can track the problem? and if so wheres a good place to start?? any ideas, as every other light etc works in the car!!
