w41k3r
hey, after my car breaking down after the tunnel run we finally took the diff of today to see if it was that that had gone there were a few pieces of metal floating few teeth missing bits but nothing major to stop drive the car would not drive but could be pushed, diff off now and right wheel spins freely left wheel moves backwards but forwards is stiff and feels like it gets stuck part way car goes in gear fine, idles fine, still feels like it has a clutch no previous slipping of any sort just puzzled as to whats left to check any ideas does the car have handbrake shoes ? but as said dont think this would stop drive as we can push it what should we check for???? also when it went it felt like a pull from the rear then an almost sketchy handling feeling like a wheel locked up but also revs shot up and no drive
Chris Wilson
You can't possibly seriously expect a diff with bits missing off the teeth to necessarily drive either correctly or even at all? If the diff is an open one you may find the sun gears have broken, that would stop all drive. Have you got any decent photos of it out of the casing, if so I may be able to tell you from those if it's just a diff problem. Sounds terminal to me though, given the price and availability of diff parts for these from Toyota. Is the crown wheel and pinion OK? If so you MAY be able to fit a TRD LSD centre section to repair it.
w41k3r
It was an open diff and the bits missing were mm`s i have a whole new lsd to fit in its place going on tomoz its also the wheel not spining freely thats a prob backwards freely but not forwards ???? Ian C
Remove obviously broken diff, fit the new diff, recheck everything afterwards. I imagine your problems will clear up
Chris Wilson
Yes, sounds like the cheapest and easiest way forward, hope it works out for you, good luck!
w41k3r
cheers chris will fit later as its a quick job this is my third i will also get vids of whats happening does anybody have an idea why the pass rear is having so much trouble spining bar the obvious caliper this is what happens spins almost round gets tight spins a little freer gets tight spins a little freer gets stuck like a warped disk maybe if that helps what could cause the problem like things to check does the handbrake use the caliper or shoes ?? i read a thread where some one said there car lost drive and it was down to a cv joint could this be a possibility ?? Chris Wilson
Just take the disc off and it will immediately remove the possibilities of a warped disc, seized caliper or binding hand brake shoes from the equation
pedrosixfour
cheers chris will fit later as its a quick job this is my third Not trying to sound condescending but........ Is it possible you might still be on your second if you had taken your time installing it? There is quite a bit of jiggery-pokery* to getting a diff set up for reliability. *(Yes, that IS the official recognised term for it!) Nic
what am i too check next any ideas ?????? Are you still testing it with the broken internals? If there are teeth missing and debris inside, the seals and bearings are probably also FUBAR. As has already been said, replacing the diff, bearings and seals should solve the problem. w41k3r
as said in previous posts i have replaced the broken diff with a NEW lsd/torsen diff and we still have a prob so rules out diff
Nic
as said in previous posts i have replaced the broken diff with a NEW lsd/torsen diff and we still have a prob so rules out diff Did you also replace the bearings and seals? If debris has got into the bearings, it could be a seized bearing causing your problems. Was the final drive gearing in good condition or replaced? Chris Wilson
If the clutch is up and the propshaft isn't turning with it in gear, it's either the gearbox or the clutch.
