neo2810
You're all very wrong... It's neither a talent contest, nor a popularity contest. It's a show designed to rake in cash for Simon Cowel and his backers, full stop. You know all those people voting more than once for W(V)agner *cough*scott*cough*? All they are doing is lining Cowells' pockets. There's your reason they wont change the format to give the judges full power over who goes through, then there will be no revenue from voting. About 30 million votes through the season at 35p per vote is not a bad little side earner from the show. I doubt they would want to give that up. Charlotte
I don't understand why the programme isn't received in the same way as American Idol - but then maybe it doesn't make as good tv in this country because retarded people need someone to laugh at to keep them interested. It always produces someone that is talented, it's varied - you get people that do rock to country and western, the guest judges are the likes of Tarantino and the contestants mostly play instruments. The audition stages are probably the bit that pull in the most viewers but in American Idol the top ten are voted in by the public and they genuinely want someone with talent to win it. That will never happen here when people vote for the likes of Wagner. This whole 'beating Cowell' thing is just plain weird - they are judges - but ultimately WE are the judges. If Wagner wins the XFactor the show will get/need a serious shake up which is all most people are after really. It's an entertainment show and for the best part it DOES actually do that, it needs some integrity though as it is getting more and more laughable by the season (Cheeko, Cheeky Girls, Twat Twins, Wagner, etc etc etc). I'll put a proposal forward, go with the same method of "eviction" as big brother. Vote who you want OFF rather than who you want to keep. I know this may seem similar to voting to stay, but it is very different. In saying that, I don't think as much money would be made from it as people would be less likely to vote for 2 or 3 acts like they currently do. That is probably the reason they opted for the method of voting in the first place.

Of course it's lining Cowell's pockets, but what he really wants is an act he can break in America and sell millions of units over the next year or so. Five years + if he's lucky. Wagner is probably not going to do that for him, so in the end when you do the maths, even with millions of telephone votes (which he'd enjoy regardless of who the contestants were) he would miss out on tens of millions if the bearded Brazilian won. A bit like Leon Jackson, who is currently working in a clothes shop in Edinburgh.

I find pop idol a far better talent show than any of the UK variants. The best singer usually wins the competition and there are very very rarely any shocks about who is voted off.... it is usually the worst singer of that particular show. I love the fairness in Pop Idol. The Americans seem to vote a lot more fairly, and a lot less cynically, than the British public do.
supramkivcork
It's a television show, it entertains (subject to opinion ) it is talked about constantly by the public. Cowell is a shrewd businessman no matter what people think about him. He says things and makes decisions that are deliberately controversial so people will talk about him/x-factor. People do it every week if someone is voted out that should't have been. All the bitchiness even on the show you can be sure is well orchestrated before they go on air. The judges are being paid to a job (line Cowell's pockets). Everything is geared towards making as much money as possible , sure look at those idiots Jedward, everyone knows they haven't a note in their head yet still they made money for the show and continue to do so. Swampy442
Imagine being 17 and having story after story written about you, just for appearing on tv each week. It's a sad state of affairs. Well some might say its her own fault for wanting to be famous, others might say its a reflection on society and their lust for 'celebrity' gossip, yet more its the fault of the press. Ive never watched it and dont plan on doing so, it annoys the crap out of me. I get the results from Faceslag statuses lol
Lbm
A bit like Leon Jackson, who is currently working in a clothes shop in Edinburgh. It's all a bit Spinal Tap-esque; currently residing in the 'Where are they now?' files

imi
I voted 3 times for Wagner (pronounced Vagener) over the weekend. I'm not sure if the reasons he is getting so many votes are the same as mine or not. For me the show has turned into a complete farce. It has gotten progressively worse over the past few years with all the little mind games and in-fighting. The fact that Louis put in Wagner in the first place just shows how much of a farce it has all become. Not to forget Cheryl picking those 2 warbling freaks who couldn't get past any of the auditions without bursting into tears or croaking. It was after those picks that I initially got pee'd off. What is the point of it all? They clearly had their minds made up wayyyyy before that stage. If they hadn't then those choices wouldn't have been made and a couple of talented people might actually have been given a shot. And then I wondered why Wagner was getting through. After the first 2 weeks I spotted some people commenting on Facebook. I then spotted that the group that was behind the RATM Christmas no.1 had started a new campaign for Wagner to get through........ to show just how much of a popularity contest the Xfactor was rather than a talent show. Sooo, the bandwagon I then jumped upon and I've been voting for him ever since. They need to come up with a system where the most talented person wins. Leon Jackson is a prime example. How the hell he was picked over Rhydian (SP?) I'll never know. The fact that people say "he wasn't liked" sums it up for me, it isn't a popularity contest FFS. It's also the reason that it is very rare that a girl or girl group will win. Leona and Alexandra being the exception to the rule, but only because they were head and shoulders above the rest, not to mention Alexandra's touching story about not getting through the first time (boo hoo). Girls will tend to vote for the "Cute" boy(s) regardless of how dreadful they are, and Girls will always be the more prominent voters in any competition like this. To sum up, the reason Wagner keeps getting through is the guys want a laugh and to make a mockery out of the whole show, to wind up Simon Cowell and all the girlies in their lives who care about who goes through and who doesn't. Good post......would be nice to see him win and Mr Cowell putting all his efforts in getting him a Christmas no 1 - LOL
tbourner
Didn't Cowell spend loads getting Katie Waissel out of her US contract so she could stay in the show?
Scott
Didn't Cowell spend loads getting Katie Waissel out of her US contract so she could stay in the show? That is a rumour. There is some evidence backing it up though. Katie was DEFINITELY making a record in the US. I can't remember whether it was an album or a single, I'm guessing album. Regardless of which it was there MUST have been a contract in place. Either there has been a loophole or her contract has been bought out. It has to be one or the other. IMO it is the reason she keeps getting saved by the judges. The show owners would have serious egg on their face if she had went out at the first eviction she was nominated for.
