The Crazies - Film

There seem to be a few zombie things around at the moment, what with zomblogapocalypse and The Walking Dead, but I've only just seen the new take on the theme: The Crazies!

It was lent to me by the father in law, he raved about it saying I'd love it, TBH it was pretty average. I'm becoming a zombie story fan and this one ruined it, making the infected appear not too different to normal, just gradually going mental. Also a bit of a Saw mix in there with some gruesome torture type murders, probably why he liked it so much (he's a huge Saw fan).

Anyone else seen it? Marks out of 10?

I thought it took after it's name. Not a zombie film... a "world goes crazy" film.

IIRC, I quite enjoyed this film.

Yeah maybe I approached it with the wrong ideas.

I do think the zombie films like 28 Days Later and Walking Dead tend to jump in too late though, and Crazies showed a more realistic side to the government/armed forces and how they'd likely react to something like that!

I thought it was an average movie. As with most films nowadays the trailer made it appear far more interesting than it actually was.

If you want to see a slightly different take on zombies you should watch Devils Playground. It has Danny Dyer as one of the leads so don't expect much. The main difference in this movie, I think anyway, is the fact that the zombies aren't slow moving groaning nit-wits. They become very strong, very fast and very nimble once infected. I read an article on the movie saying that they cast 100s of free-runners to play the part of the zombies, and that aspect of it worked very well for me.

The film itself, again, is OK. No thinking at all in it and basically the same plot as every other Zombie flick you have seen, it just had a nice edge with the Zombies actually being as fast as they are strong.

Dawn of the Dead remake did that too, I only watched 10 mins of the original and got bored, but quite liked the new one cos of the speedy zombs.

I thought it was average to poor. I was expected more from it, especially as the trailer made it look so good. In reality, the film didn't move in the same was as one would expect from what the trailer showed. The last quarter of the film was the most disappointing imo.

Didn't enjoy it myself, found it a bit boring. It's another remake of a Romero original from early seventies, between Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Not a zombie movie, per se but another satire/ morality tale.

I am struggling with The Walking Dead .... appears to refer to the cast.

Hope they make a faithful World War Z, although I fear I may be overdosing on zombie stuff [sHOCK][/sHOCK]

Both paranormal activities are terrible. I managed to keep my attention focused on the first one until the ouija(sp?) board set something on fire, from then on I just picked up my laptop and glanced at the TV every 5 minutes or so.

The 2nd one didn't even get my full attention from the start, load of garbage it was. Although I have to give credit that they did try to tie both movies together, even though it was very badly.

Its a little bit slow and drawn out. What have we had, three episodes now? ...to get not very far into the plotline. I'm fearing a long strung out thing like Lost. Unlike Lost we've found out very little about the characters too, if its going to be character driven, rather than Zombie (or "geek") driven. I've not read the original comic, so have no idea of the story resolution.

It's been very faithful to the original comic so far, but I got a bit bored with that too.

Philistines.
