When are Astras cool?

The body moulds will almost certainly be around somewhere, so panels will just be an arm and a leg :) Engine spares should be no issue as it's a modern production based unit, AFAIK, albeit highly modded. With engines if you can still get the castings almost anything else can be made from drawings or pattern parts. Uprights, suspension arms, ARB's and suchlike, if fabricated, can be re made, same with drive shafts et cetera. ECU will be Bosch, there may be issues there if it's locked, and it dies with the map still in it, but if not it will be considered still fairly modern and spare units will be available. If you REALLY bin it though you may just have to accept that you have just lost a few years wages.... :( The whole caboodle is custom made, and bespoke, they probably would have made about 6 or so of them in period. Not as bad as trying to run a post mid eighties f1 though, where parts were changed and became obsolete on a race by race basis, and no thought of how someone would run one nearly 30 years later were considered. That's when you can really find out what aggro running something in the top league is! Those with the commitment and deep pockets who want to run something F1 usually find alloy tubbed cars with "off the shelf" DFV's in them are the only practical way of running and racing those cars. The late cars are just mind blowingly expensive and hard work.

Yeah I can imagine! I was just curious because you see all this ex works metal in hill climbs, club races, demos etc and obviously they need fixing. And Im not going to start on things like the Ferarri Pizza van and the like.

Ive always fancied a touring car to tool about on track days, Id love that Astra round Snet or Cadwell :)
