who would you use for rebuild?

Well you didn't specify distance :p

 

You think he's a long way from you, he rebuilt a head for me a few years back. Terminator found me a used head in Cambs, sent to CW, I sent CW my HKS cams. All was cleaned, machined and rebuilt then sent back to HK looking brand spanking new. :thumbs:

 

Just stick him your engine in the post and let him do his magic :)

Had work done from Whifbitz- very well recommended

 

Bought stuff from AFR (Dude) - Very well recommended

 

And LeeP (SRD) has built and worked on many members cars.

 

Probably will come down to who your closest to, as you can be confident using any of the above services.

What power are you going for? was it not something like 550bhp? new stock short block not an option?, maybe just change the rod bolts, you should still get back some money selling yours.

 

it was running 600 but there was some problems idealy i want to run alittle more if possible, i have seriously been thinking about a new short block but if mine is repairable surly id be better of with a built engine especially as ill be going with ryans suggestion the syvecs instead of the aem.

I can't give a price. You might think that's odd, wrong or unhelpful. It's none of those, it's just impossible to say what will be found on stripping it, and I don't want to send out a half cocked job, and you don't want a fright if I find a lot more wrong with it than you think. I would say a very minimum of £3K to remove, fully strip the bottom end, inspect, and if your rather optimistic hopes are vindicated, rebore, hone and fit a set of next oversize Wiseco pistons and rings, rebuild and refit. I would suggest the engine has all the valves out to assess the head, the number six con rod inspected carefully, all new bearings and a new oil and water pump fitted unless the pumps are known to be almost brand new and the oil pump has zero scoring.

Finding someone to trust with your car is a very difficult thing. Most of which is personal experience. I had mine built at Whifbitz and can't recommend Paul highly enough. Paul is easy to talk to always listens and makes recommendations on setup for your use etc.

 

My only recommendation would be to step back from the immediate problem and look at budget and where you want to go with the setup and spec from there. The reason being I never thought I would take mine to where it is now and if I want to go any further I'm limited by some of the internal choices we made at the time.

I've used Whifbitz for nearly 10 years now (I think they've been going for 11 years) and have never needed to go anywhere else.

 

Informed, knowlegable, experienced and funny sometimes ;).

These guys have built and modified my time attack car ever since I first started with 'track/race' prepped cars, so if you want proof of workmanship quality then running a built engine for almost two seasons of hard driving and testing (not just the odd track day/road use) before needing a reuild should show that these guys know whats needed.

(The rebuild was for maintenance reasons, not because of build issues - in case anyone asks)

 

They have come a long way since I first used them, to the extent they now have significant investment in supra parts that are tried and tested, so the guesswork is removed.

 

Cynics may say that I'm biased because I'm sponsored by them - true I am, but I still have to put my own money ( and sometimes considereable ) into the car as nothing is free in this world. All I can say is I'm happy to spend and keep spending money with these guys.

 

I could go on, but I'll emabarass them .....:D

Don't let distance put you off, Palletline £45 anywhere in the UK, my bottom end is off to york for Align Boring, its cheaper to send it there on a pallet than for me to take it to the local engineer in my car. So pick your builder of choice and ship the motor to them, any trader on here is very trustworthy with your ££££ ie they won't do a runner, which is the only reason to shy away from long distance work.
