caseys
Hey All, Just thought I'd make people aware it's black friday week at Amazon and some bargains can be had, but literally it changes hour to hour. 9am-10am today you could've got the entire harry potter box set (6 films) on blu-ray for £12.97 ... £24.99 on play. Also sometime this week there are Wii with 60% off, as in the console... not a game. Don't know *when* this is though. Also saw Goldeneye on Wii for £11. Earlier were a set of creative speakers retailing at £82 on play etc going for £55. So it's not all tat. I think there must be a lot of ebayers watching as stock is limited and it's selling our fairly quickly. I bet half the stock then reappears on eBay the same day with a good markup. New sale every hour, good time to bag some christmas bargains.

marbleapple
What's black Friday? I thought it was the day when the most Wall Street Brokers threw themselves off their skyscapers in the Wall Street crash of 1929. There we go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_(1929) I am sure there is a film where people are throwing themselves out of skyscrapers in 1929. Anyone remember what film it is? I have a feeling it is a comedy (no I am not joking)

Nothing to do with shares or investing. P.s. No longer as attracted to you without the tash.

Bobbeh
Black Friday is a thanksgiving sales day in the US, gives people a chance to do most of their Christmas shopping early and on the cheap! Sounds like its another American tradition working its way over to these shores.
marbleapple
Bobbeh... Is it derived from the wall street crash (see my earlier post)... I expect the Americans would commemorate it. Wish I could remember that film...

Wish I could remember that film... You're thinking of Black Tuesday I think, which was in October 1929. Or you might be thinking of this Black Friday in 1869. Not sure what stock market volatility would have to do directly with retail sales promotions though. Black Friday's origins are discussed here. I guess the US shops need to discount deeply to tempt people back into shops after Thanksgiving, a bit like our January sales.
