JamesArup
Arrrrghhhh!! My window motor seemed to die yesterday. Looks like the metal wire inside has become twisted and frayed. The motor is probably okay, but it's just not moving! Luckily the window was up at the time! Just got home from work, closed the car door, and the drivers window has just slowly 'sunk' down. The window controls have no effect at all. So now I am stuck with a window that's wide open, and no way of closing it!! I've got the door card off and there seems to be what looks like a white square of plastic on the wire. It looks like it should be in a runner or something, but I can't find one to fit it into (not easy in there either!). Anyone got any ideas? I've got about an hour to sort this out, or I'm going to have to leave my car with the window wide open overnight!! Cheers, J
Marty
Funny enough the same thing happened to my car about a week ago, my window wouldnt shut. i took the door card off and found that the cable that pulls the window up and down had frayed, quite a few of the strands had got caught inside the cable cover, and had jammed the motor mechanism, with no way of fixing it like you my window was down and i needed to take it up somehow, i had to resorted to cutting the cable in half, as it was beyond repair anyway. Then pulling the window up by hand, and then once the window was fully up, i loosed a bolt which was close to the cut cable, firmly wrapped the cable round once, and then tighted the bolt up. This has worked fine and my window hasnt moved. I am now on the look for a 2nd hand window motor and cable, or if easier, a complete drivers door

JamesArup
Heh heh! I have used an elaborate mix of cable ties and string to wrap around the 'runner' that the window sits in to hold it up. It's very 'mickey mouse' .. but it seems to be doing the job for now!! Jagman ... What sort of money are you looking for! I deffo need the new mechanism as far as I can tell! Basically, all you can see here: - Window Mechanism Cheers, James
JamesArup
Actually ... failing this, does anyone know where I can get a new one of these asap? Is there anywhere that I can order one online, or do I have to speak to Totyota directly so they can rip me off :thumbdown Don't fancy being stuck in this heat with a window that doesn't work Cheers, J
