Chris Wilson
Good man, this is what I like to see. Nice cage, I take it I won't be buying it then....? Their full cages used to be used in the ETC cars, a true work of art. Be interested to see what you can get it down to, the doors are silly heavy, BTW. jagman
I am cutting the inner doors out,the weight in the looms is astonishing, (all that copper )I reckon about 30-40kg-im just gonna make my own bare minimum loom with lightweight cable(aircraft)-no frills just lights, indicators, etc, ,
Chris Wilson
Wonderful! I did have a friend who was commissioned to build GT series Supra and he was working with a bare shell. The budget was going to be of a profesional level, and he commented how the cast allooy subframes were very heavy and fabbed out of steel could be lighter. Things like front wings and bonnet weren't very heavy at all. tailgate with glass was seriously overwight for a racer though! he shared your views that loom and extraneous (SP?) electronic gizmos added up to a huge chunk of weight Once my Skyline has the running gear sorted I'll decide whether to strip it, weld in cage it, and have it solely as a track car, or keep it half civilised! Good luck with it, keep us posted how you get on please, with piccies.
Chris Wilson
BTW, you might find this guys posts on a UK Skyline forum interesting, he's doing something very similar with an R32 GTR Skyline http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23356&goto=newpost
CJ
I was at Adam's place yesterday and felt the weight of 3/4 loom off a Mini - and that was incredibly heavy!
jagman
interesting project, perhaps not as radical as mine will end up,tom walkingshaw went along these lines with a jaguar xj12c,he swiss drilled everywhere, first time out; the car fell in half :thumbdown .so some caution is needed. on the upside there is now loads of room in the rear seat area for me to fit coolers, and snorkel feed them using the rear window pane area for a naca vent- as long as I dont rupture a line and spray hot oil inside the whole car -note to self---- must check tighten all unions prior to first engine start
