Attero
I hear a rattling coming from the engine bay. I had a look and the best I could come up with was a rattling crank pulley. I've heard the stories... so is this something I should get checked immedietely?
Swampy442
Sure its not your aux belt pulley? Ive experienced one where the noise sounded like it was coming from the cam bearings. Squirt a bit of GT80 etc on the pulley bearing and see if it goes away, after that tipex the crank pulley.
Attero
I took it into Toyota and they told me it was the crank pulley going. Not good! How much could I be looking at for a new crank pulley? Or is there a better option than having to go to Toyota and paying a ton for this. Dnk
Paul Whiffin sells the cheapest o/e crank pulleys, i wouldnt drive it anywhere if its definetly this as failure can end with a lot of damage which has already happend to a member on here. Attero
I checked his site and couldn't find anything. I'll send him a PM. I've seen this... I'm wandering if this is cheaper than the o/e pulley (and perhaps better): http://www.japspeed.co.uk/Toyota-Supra/Toyota-Supra-Mk4-Lightweight-Crank-Pulley/p-28-1-498/ How much does an o/e pulley actually roughly go for? Purity14
You need to buy a crank pulley (and a new belt), changing it shouldnt be too difficult if you are removing it before it has broken off

Dnk
Toyota retail is £286.54 inc vat, i can get one for £243.45 with discount inc vat The o/e pulley has a built in damper, do not buy an undamped crank pulley !!
Attero
Oh crap... really? Is that discounted with Paul?

Attero
How did you get a discount? Work for them or something similar?
stevie_b
http://whifbitzperformancetuning.co.uk/toyota-supra-engine-components-toyota-parts-toyota-p-1802.html The Toyota OEM crank pulley is at the top (in my browser anyway). You'd best check with someone that it would fit an NA.
Dnk
How did you get a discount? Work for them or something similar? Just ask your local dealer for their best price on whatever part you want. I dont work for Toyota. I changed my crank pulley recently and bought one that was 1 month old off Chris Wilson and got very lucky with a very good price

Digsy
Rattley, though? They usually squeak. Could be the FEAD tensioner bearing perhaps?
Attero
Toyota came back and said it's shot to pieces right now. I shouldn't have been driving the Supra as it is. It was only when I started the car the other day and walked around it and noticed the noise - opened the bonnet and found it. It's still intact and is working, but if I drive it any more, I'll end up like some up the guys here who have had the same problem. So is it confirmed that the N/A and TT pulleys are the same?
