Antimatter atom trapped for the first time

Here's a nice light-hearted topic for a car forum:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11773791

Now if you want to talk about sustainable energy...

(it's probably a way off yet though ;))

Mad week for science isn't it?

I've also read about 'event cloaks' that could be used to distort time so that an even occurring within them would be unseen by anyone.

Also read about the experiment where light was slowed to 39mph!

Crazy.

Anti-matter! Anti-hydrogen! What could be cooler? You wake up one morning, and you're living in the future.

It'll certainly be a good year for sweeping generalisations, that's for sure.

Excellent.

Yeah, but it's almost self-assembling once you can slow it down ... scaling up to make and store anti-helium - now that would be an impressive feat. The big questions I see are 'can you use regular neutrons', and 'how do you slow a neutron (or antineutron *confused*) down enough for it to bond, while getting it close enough to act as part of the nucleus'.

Ooh never heard of that one, just read this (first search result I clicked), sounds interesting! Similar principle to a 'warp' field as well, except that obviously requires silly energy to compress and expand space-time, this is done with materials!! Strange to think you can slow time in one place and expand it in another, creating a gap in the middle of 'free' time from nowhere, and the objects in the compressed/expanded sections don't notice anything!! Are we evolving slowly out of our 4th dimensional limits!!

Its not that difficult to do really;)

Jut think if 'they' can get it to 88mph, then time travel will be possible. :)
