Ian W
Why the feck does it take so much longer than the stated '2 mins' for one sachet of Oat So Simple to cook in my microwave on full power when it's rated at 1000 watts? Bizarrely, I've made them successfully in a lower powered microwave at far nearer the 2 minute mark than I seem to be able to here. Any ideas? Does anyone else suffer the same problem? Abz
I think I might have an answer to this... My 15 year old Microwave can heat anything within 1 minute! The longest I put anything in is 3 minutes because after that you can't even hold the bowl or dish you put in, its that hot! (Matsui Model). Other microwaves which I have brought for my sister, the other house, Dad's restaurant and ones at work, they are all pretty new but rubbish compared to the old one at home. The office one in the Canteen looks like it could cook a chicken in 3 minutes but put a soup in for like 2 minutes and it is like luke warm Oh, forgot to mention the other thing it could be you don't have it at the highest heat setting. Charlotte
I found that with microwave popcorn. In an old microwave it works so much better. I have no idea how they work and always think they might be too hot these days.
Chris Wilson
I just heat it in a pan, seems to taste better to me. You have to pay attention unless you want to spend ages cleaning the pan, porridge seems to stick worse than most anything else if it gets too hot, or isn't stirred constantly. We are not up market enough for none stick utensils
ivan
I've recently rediscovered this tasty breakfast treat and find that 2 mins in my 800w microwave as just right if I use slightly less milk than they recommend. I stir the oats into the cold milk first, nuke it then stir again afterwards to get the right "sticks to the spoon" consistency. Top with a sprinkling of sugar and away you go. And it's fun watching it 'volcano' through the glass and hoping it doesn't bubble over. Failing that, bung it in a saucepan instead...
