supra_aero
My source was the BBC article I linked to in post 122. Other websites seem to use exactly the same figure so they probably all stem from a single estimated source, but I'd like to know what that source was. Anyhow, whatever the actual figure was it's bound to have been huge. I didn't believe you made it up don't worry I just wonder how they came up with that figure. I couldn't care less about it but if it means a free bank holiday and day for partying I'm up for it
Purity14
I find that statistic incredibly hard to believe. I reckon most of Africa and India wouldn't give two hoots about it. And thats a massive proportion of the world population gone just there. People in Africa And India dont have televisions, they just use the Tesco 99p FM radios that we donate at Harvest Festival along with the tinned tomatos.. surely? Chris Wilson
Also, the Indians are too busy looking for another Koh-i-noor, and the Africans are too busy mining diamonds so some despot can give them to dodgy models late at night. RedM
Objection, your honour. Front page of the Metro paper* this morning: Increase sales expected of £600m, demand . The metro is free therefore it cannot have a 'sales' increase. I move to have this case dismissed and the Royal Couple TM set to work down't pit. Lbm
Also, he Indians are too busy looking for another Koh-i-noor... I live round the corner from a Koh-i-noor Avenue. After that kid found a valuble item yesterday with his metal detector, I think I'll head off there this afternoon. Thanks for the inspiration. Matt H
Saying someone is coloured I guess is calling them second class, as it implies that white is the normal colour. To be fair, Mr Wilson doesn't try to hide that he's a racism, so that's a merit on his part I guess
Purity14
Saying someone is coloured I guess is calling them second class If I explain to you that I encountered a Fat man or an Old woman in my travels today, I would say they were descriptive words, Adjectives if you will - Hardly labeling the poor man and woman I encountered "second class". That would be your own interpretation.
Gaz6002
That would be your own interpretation. So you think Matt's the racist here then.

That would be your own interpretation. Face palm. I've just stopped loling at that. Could be the worst analogy I've read in a long time. Being fat is a fact - if you're overweight, you're overweight. Coloured is not - as who is someone to say that an individual is 'coloured' in. Coloured stemmed from the white supremacism, considering white to be the master race and everyone else is somehow coloured. It's considered a racist word, I don't care myself, I was merely trying to explain why.

supra_aero
Can't believe you are bothering to reply Matt. I just read his reply to my earlier post and thought he's not worth my time. He knows what he is as do you. Purity was obviously never taught white is a colour also. Move on.

stevie_b
I can see both sides of it: Purity, I believe you're pointing out that calling someone coloured is merely a description. It's neither derogatory nor complimentary. It's simply an observation. Matt, I believe you're saying that calling someone coloured is a bit discriminatory because it implies something different from the norm. One wouldn't describe someone as a two-legged person in normal conversation, but if they had only one leg, they might be described as a one-legged person. I still don't think that's derogatory but I can see how some might. Just trying to clear up what I think is a case of crossed wires. Anyway, how did we stray onto racism? I think Kate would make a good queen, and I've seen her in her skimpies.

He was clearly speaking in derogatory terms as implied by his donations and 99p radios being used in Africa talk. Last I'll say on it. But back on topic.. It will remain to be seen if Kate will make a good Queen - not sure how one quantifies the performance of a queen if I am honest.
