far
do we think Kate Middletons parents will be providing the decorations for the tables at the wedding? (research required to make sense of the question) :-) She hasnt done bad though, a nice story of how even working class folk can reach the unreachable in todays society. Its also certainly put Leeds and Miggy on the map!!! Maybe Miggy will have an American tourist centre soon! I'm pretty sure the queen woulnt have approved of this though and will probably have her killed in a tunnel at some point
supra_aero
She isn't working class though is she. Her parents WERE, but are not anymore. And she was born into riches.
Lbm
Well the Queen at al have had over 8 years to make her go away. I guess they like her?
Matt H
I think a poll should be added to this thread, asking 'Are whether you are fine with Kate becoming queen?.

Yeah dude, I was referring to her parents parents reaching high society from humble beginings! Oh and she wasnt born into riches as they launched their company in 1987 when she was 5 years old. Oh and she wasnt born into riches as they launched their company in 1987 when she was 5 years old. I understand. Ok not "born into" but she still had the upbringing of a rich kid for the majority of her child hood, and lived that lifestyle from what the media and herself portrays with the designer clothes etc. etc.. She also went to that snobby pretentious Marlborough college. As far from working class as you could get if you ask me - maybe only Eton college tops that. But anyway,... if he and she are happy. Then it's all good - I don't know them and they may be a jolly good couple. So I wish them the best.

Tannhauser
I've just beeen looking at the Daily Torygraph blog. It's clearly an event of galactic importance: Unhappily for Kate and William, their engagement has profound national significance. They will help form our collective imagination. They are now part of what we are as a nation, how we define ourselves as individuals, and how we are seen by foreigners. That is why each and every one us will be deeply affected by the looming royal marriage, republicans no less than those who believe in the institution of monarchy. (my emboldening). Some of the comments on there are priceless: The future is taking shape here for the British monarchy. Your future King and Queen are about to be married. It is indeed a joyous time for you. Your present Queen has ruled with dignity, grace and honor for almost 60 years. We wish her continued good health but realize that the throne must one day pass to a new monarch. William and Kate are the future of your country. We should wish them all the best. Crikey.
SupraStar 3000
I can't type anything this afternoon Try typing with your left hand. Give it a go - Honestly mate. Its changed my life. Took me a few months to get it right, and now I can do both my favorite activates at the same time.
Gaz6002
Crikey. I think it's true. People in this country are quick to dismiss and denounce, but I think it's more significant than a lot of people can understand. The wedding is going to be a massive event in itself, much bigger than most realise at this point.

Unfortuneatly for me, I need both hands to do the other activity, otherwise I just can't cover all the ground needed.
Gordon F
Don't know much about the lass, but she does seem a cut above some of the previous tramps selected as royal brides - Camilla, Ferguson and the German one from Kent spring immediately to mind. Matt H
The wedding is going to be a massive event in itself, much bigger than most realise at this point. The bottom line is, I won't be invited to the evening do and I won't get a slice of weddding cake. I might be able to buy a mug or a coin with their faces on though. I doubt in these economic times that the wedding will be that big. When people are struggling around the country, I doubt millions of pounds on a royal wedding would be at the top of the list for funding. They wouldn't be able to get away with it. Maybe 2 / 3 years ago it would have been.

But then I think all celebrity weddings are of zero significance.

I didn't say I thought the wedding was significant, just that I think the event will be. We'll all be sick to death of it soon (if not already ). marbleapple
Interesting. I think it's an event of zero significance. Really? I am surprised that you would come to this conclusion. The eyes of the whole world on England, discussions about the monarchy, millions of pounds changing hands, a potential king having a new wife who (like all wives) will probably have significant influence on him and presumably subsequent policy and direction of the country. I disagree on the point of 'zero significance'. Irrespective on people's views of the monarchy, they are very heavy weight in politics, social circles and the commonwealth. In my opinion an engagement is important even if I agree with you that the media will turn it into a circus. Also, lets remember that Charles/di wedding brought parties to the street and a positive 'feeling' which some claim increased public moral and thus public spending etc etc
