I didn't realise it applied to people who were getting married to a Brit (or are you not married? People use the word Mrs loosely sometimes). Where does she originate from? And how come is a few years?

she is from the states. she had to get a visa to come here to get married. then she had to apply for permanant redidancy as soon as we were married which means she can stay for 2 years (i think) she has to take this test and have an interview etc before the 2 years is up so she can stay forever.

It realy is quite rediculous. To get the marrage visa she had to prove she knew me. that we had met. that we had spent time together. that i was financialy able to support her for 6 months while she was no able to work. we had to show reciepts of flights i had made to the states to meet her. hotel bookings we had made together while we visited other places in the usa together. car hire for the holidays we took together. pictures of us together in the usa. there was a load of other stuff she had to do aswell including the usual huge and complicated form where a lost of the questions didnt even apply. The whole process from start to finish took well over a year and a half, probably more like 2.

the day after we got married in halifax we had to attend an interview in sheffield to apply for her recidency permit card thing which proves she can work and live in the uk untill xxxx date. we had to provide all the above and our marage certificate. We could not go on our honeymoon (a med cruse) untill she had this ID card thing as we could leave the country but they wouldnt let her back in as her origonal visa would have run out by then.

Stupid thing is. If she was from a EU country she could have more or less come into the country and got married, applied for a different visa and stayed i believe.

Even coming here and marrying from ex commonwelth countries like india and australia is ridiculously easy in comparison.

The whole thing is understandably designed for people getting married to people from umbongo land to prevent people trafficking i guess. however for people like us who genuinely just want to be together we have this thing hanging over us STILL for a couple of years. Although i highly doubt this will happen the are still within there rights to tell her to feck off back home despite us leaving a very happy life with 2 cars, a dog and 2 cats, a house without a mortgage and not claiming anything off the state (she isnt allowed and i dont).

Verry frustrating.
