st1989
hi guys, got a problem, driving yesterday and the engine started to run rough, then when i stopped it cut out! a whole load of steam started to appear from engine bay, when we looked at it we discivered a coolant hose had burst and drained everything. we waited and got a recovery truck home, ive replaced the pipe today but after filling car with coolant and starting the car its idling very rough!! any ideas what could have happened? Swampy442
Which hose? What engine? How far did you drive with no coolant?
Pete
Did you notice the temperature gauge? The engine is very strong and will cope with an overheat, but not for long. Maybe it's wet electrics depending on where the water went?
st1989
its the small pipe leading into the heatder matrix at the back of the engine as far as i know, its the 2jz-gte engine, drove about 50 yards before engine started running rough, then pulled over
Scott
Did the coolant run under the sparkplug cover?
st1989
yeah it has, just noticed that now, blowing all water and drying everything out, then clean plugs etc, will let you know if it runs ok after
Scott
That will be the issue bud. If you had blown the gasket I think your exhaust gas would give it away well before a rough idle.

Havard
yeah thats it guys, cheers! its running smooth, just ensuring the radiator is free of air locks! :) Sometimes better parking it facing up a steep hill and let it warm up with the radiator cap off for a bit. But not for too long..!!

st1989
Can anybody recommend a good hose replacement kit? Looking to replace all coolant/turbo hoses. There all standard just now and look like they need replaced!
Nic
75272 Blitz Upper & Lower Silicon Radiator Hose Kit. TCS56/C Samco Upper & Lower Silicon Radiator Hose Kit. 13911221 GReddy Aluminium Upper Radiator Hose Kit. 1302-ST001 HKS Aluminium Intercooler Pipe Kit. TCS56 Samco Silicon Intercooler Pipe Kit
Scott
I would just get standard ones for the rear. The ones Nic has mentioned above are a nice addition to the front of the car but none of them will come with the pipe that came off on you. hodge
I've ordered some superflex hose from samco for mine. It's way cheaper than the stock item and is very flexible and aparently due to the wire inside it holds it's shape when you bend it. Think I paid about 40 quid for a metre. For both stock hoses from Mr.T your looking at 100 quid.

st1989
just a wee update for you guys, i went toyota for a 3 of the hoses, all the rest (all coolant/turbo related) have been bought and am awaiting delivery, there all gonna be blue apart from toyota ones, should add nice effect to engine bay. i took a closer look at the stock intercooler and it was safe to say it had its time! A HKS front mount intercooler has been ordered, along with new spark plugs, oil, oil filter etc, will get everything done just now to ensure the car is running at its best!
