Branners
Check on the ramps John.......your car is bl**dy low. last time I was over there, brother in law's escort caught on them:( John its me AND the family...its the family wagon on this run so absolutely no problems with ride height unless the weight of toys, books and beach balls is too much for the poor Vectra. ewizzy, what sort of times are you travelling? They seem to serious load the prices up if you want to travel before 8pm... JB

Jake
Can anybody recommend a cheap ferry company to get me, my family and my car over there. Perferably to Cowes or Fishbourne. Red Funnel (Southampton to Cowes) is the only company that takes cars to Cowes (East Cowes only for cars, West Cowes then East Cowes for foot passengers) and WightLink go from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. I can't help with prices but it might be worth noting that the Fishbourne route takes about 35mins whereas the Cowes route takes over an hour, I think it's about 75mins from memory. Useless fact: I'm from the IoW originally and my first ever job was tying up the IoW ferries coming into West Cowes.

Supragal
£60 is what it will normally cost you, which quite frankly is a joke. Local papers etc have discounted rates. I'm pretty sure I saw it half price somewhere the other day

Useless fact: I'm from the IoW originally too and my first ever job was tying up IoW ferries coming into Ryde !! Branners, check this site out if you want to go Wightlink (Fishbourne). They often have special offers and I think you may get a discount for booking online. http://www.wightlink.co.uk/
dangerous brain
Its the most expensive stretch of water to cross in the world that is. Its only just over a mile or something and costs relatively speaking a bloody fortune. I was on holiday with some guys that worked on it last year in the ticket office and even they couldn't beleive how much it costs.

JohnK
quick count of fingers and toes please Branners - Speak to Jive on here, he works for Red Funnel and although I believe the dont give employees discount he may be able to point you in the right direction on how to get the cheapest ticket. Branners
thanks John. The place Im staying at have said they can get me a ferry for £48 travelling with Wightlink...seems a bargain but if they cant do it I will give Jive a go. JB
Jive
Its the most expensive stretch of water to cross in the world that is. Its only just over a mile or something and costs relatively speaking a bloody fortune. Ok, seeing as I'm back and posting, I'll start off with an arguement Soton to Cowes stretch of water was claimed to be the most expensive .. that journey is a 16 mile trip from Soton to Cowes and takes approx 55 mins and costs less than £30 for a vehicle and 4 people on a day trip, a 5 day return is £45. Compare that to the prices that Wightlink charge and you'll see they are about the same but bear in mind that their trip is half the distance, so how people can say Red Funnel is too expensive is beyond me. Plus when the Monopolies & Mergers Commission looked into Red Funnel (about 8 - 10 years ago) it was proved then that the Solent wasn't the most expensive and nothings changed in those years. Branners, hope you had a good trip and next time come and see me, I could probably have got you over at a reduced rate
Branners
yep, we had a great time, my son still hasnt stopped talking about te Isle of Wight. We got a bundle deal in the end with the caravan park we stayed at, it was £48 for an open return which seemed pretty reasonable. Looks like its back to Bournemouth or Poole next year unless I can find another discount caravan somewhere. JB
Jive
Looks like its back to Bournemouth or Poole next year unless I can find another discount caravan somewhere. Give me a shout next year, we (Red Funnel) do inclusive holidays as well - may have to organise a supra meet at the same time and come and annoy you
Branners
thanks Jive. Will certainly look you up before I start booking holidays for next year. Has to be said IoW is not the place to have a supra, no fast roads and too many speed cameras and dawdling coffin dodgers for my liking. Jive
I know what you mean, but then again, you do have to find the right roads I've done a couple of 100lph on a private test track there with no speed cameras around .. and not a bend in sight
Ewen
Try this, its true.. Go into a newsagents there and ask for a newspaper... Youl be asked if you want todays or yesterdays.. dangerous brain
Yo Jive dood. On another note did I see your car for sale in the local autotrader recently?
stew123
Did you go see the Whale? 44 quid I think it cost us last weekend (Southampton Cowes Red Funnel) - but that was out on Friday at 9am and back on Sunday at 5:30...
