I am looking to buy Fallout 3 for my PC but my system is not good enough. If you look here you will see that I only have an onboard graphics card and they recommend:

Intel Core 2 Duo processor

2 GB System RAM

Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA 8800 series, ATI 3800 series)

If anyone has a suitable graphics card at a reasonable price, please let me know. I am also looking for a compatible 2gb of RAM to marry up with my existing 2gb.

Buy a 4870 off eBay chap, they're quite abundant and a very good card.

4890 if you want the settings to the max. Should be good prices as the 5700/5800 series cards are out now.

Example

What's your budget though? As £100 to me = cheap graphics card. £200+ = expensive graphics card.

Thank you for the link. To be honest, i don't really have a budget in mind as I have never looked to buy any specific before.

Looks like all you need is a decent gfx card then. I got the ATI 4890 (factory overclocked) for ~ £130 and it plays new fallout on max settings nicely let alone the old one.

Not found anything that won't run on max yet in fact!

Only trouble with the 4890 is that it's 2 generations of ATI card behind. I'm sure theremust be a comparable 5xxx series card available for the same price, and if so it would be worth getting unless you can get the 4890 for a steal!

The 4890 is far superior to what I was suggesting CJ. It really depends on what you are wanting to spend :)

Even though this is a good buy, I think this one is a bit out of my price range for what I am hoping to achieve

I am just about to order the GFX card and now see that there are 2 possibilities. Which of these do you think looks the best for my needs? Predominantly normal computing (general stuff and watching films etc) and maybe some gaming - both whilst running the PC through an LCD as a monitor

I'd get the 5570 - better than the 5550 and on the sites you posted it's cheaper

Looking at the benchamrks it appears that the card is very capable of running Fallout 3. Minimum of 39fps when all settings are high and running at 1900 x 1200 (basically full HD 1080p) and obviously runs faster than that at lower resolutions if you are to play this on a smaller monitor.
