353 Miles In One Tank

I've seen 21mpg over a whole tank, mixture of long and short journeys and a bit of boost.

cheers Gaz - is that regarded as pretty good for mixed driving in a single?

i've worked out that 21mpg (on my petrol prices) is about 135 miles out of £40 fuel.

I suppose it's OK. I could get much more, but it really depends how much you use that great big turbo of yours.

I reckon at the moment doing short trips i will struggle to get early 20's mpg.....and thats not driving it hard at all. I blame the hi stall because the syvecs is usually good for increasing mpg.

I've managed 480miles between fill ups. BPU J-spec commuting on a mixture of out of town roads.

My maths isn't fantastic, but i'm sure that with a full 70 litre tank, you averaged just over 30mpg.

Which means you must have been pushing 40mpg at some points with mixed driving :conf:

I was aware (from my own experience, and others) that a well mapped single could achieve mid 30s when taking it very steady, but i didn't think it was possible on stock turbos with a stock ECU.

One of the reasons i've been looking into VVTi 1JZs is I reckon when combined with a V161, around 40 mpg should be achievable on a run. a V160 with a UK diff would make this even easier, though probably not as nice to drive.

Think it took about 68litres to fill. My weekly commute was 500 miles, but I bottled it in on my way home and filled up. Might have even been 485 miles the more I think about it.

Just outside Milton Keynes to Peterborough and back each day which is mainly steady country roads with a bit of dual carriageway. Fair few roundabouts and traffic though. Usually ride a CBR but it had a nail in the tyre that week.

... ok i put in £25 at the weekend, at 1.32ppl

I have drive 80% of the time off boost with literally a couple of small blasts.... and i got 70 miles which equates to 17mpg :(

These are all small runs, but i still thinks that low for a tuned and mapped single turbo??

Compared to other people's results that is pretty low!

£30 normally gives me rough 100 - 120 miles local stop start driving, so sounds about right.

17 mpg is pretty good for something running 742bhp! :D

Now think the RX8 does about 19 mpg with about 230bhp!

742bhp maybe, but i was driving offboost a lot of the time!!

I am going to give it another "test" with more spirited diring to compare....and also a motorway test to see the difference :)

Yeah so in theory you should be able to get almost the same MPG as an NA.

Maybe it's not mapped for economy :p

I used to get similar MPG on my TT. All my journeys are short and around town, so I don't reckon that's too bad :)

Thats good to know!!

However a single turbo OFF boost should actually get better results that a TT as your not always touching on that 1st turbo!! :D

Mine was in TTC mode most of the time, so round town would be off boost most of the time too so it would probably be very similar I guess...?

Supra owners shouldn't worry about MPG.... :D

Perfectly normal for around town driving bud. It is a guzzler. You will need to get it on the motorway cruising at 70 in 6th for LONG periods to see 30mpg.

Cool thanx for putting my mind at rest bud.

Its no real biggie anyway, i know they are Mr Economical cars....but its also good to make sure your car is performing as it should. :)

Yeah of course dude, I put a similar post up last year when I was getting awful MPG, it helps if you know others are pouring money down the drain too :D
