2soops
Morning all, sorry its probably not the topic you thought it might be! I have a FMIC with HKS metal pipes at the moment, and they have started to rust as they've been on the car a while. I saw some polished stainless ones from xs-power online, and thinking they were a bit bling and wouldn't rust bought a set. When they were delivered they have a smaller diameter than the HKS ones, and use a silicone reducer on the throttle inlet and both sides of the intercooler. The difference is probably half an inch smaller diameter. My question is, as these pipes are pressurised from the turbos, does the smaller diameter matter? Would you still get the same airflow, albeit at a slightly higher pressure? Would this higher pressure in the pipe cause any damage or stress the turbos trying to push it through. I am in two minds whether to use the new pipes or spend ages repairing the HKS ones and having them chromed. Car is a pretty much stock TT with a super dragger and induction kit that i want to go BPU with over the winter. Thanks for any advice you have

dandan
At your power level a 2.5" pipe diameter would be fine. Is that roughly what your new ones measure?
2soops
Yes its a 2.5" pipe
dandan
If they fit and you have all the clips and silicon couplers ready I would go with your new ones and not give it a second thought If you make some big changes down the road for more power then you could revert to the 3" - otherwise sell them and get some money back
Nic
HKS IC pipes are aluminium so should not rust, over time they will become tarnished as a layer of aluminium oxide builds up, can you not just clean them up?
2soops
These are definately steel and rusting. They have a metallic silver paint finish and came from tdi years ago with the intercooler which is HKS. I must have assumed they were HKS
