sim1987
Hi all had a few probs this week with my sup just had clutch and flywheel done not to long ago went out for drive the other day and noticed there was steam floating passed my headlights, pulled over and opened bonnet the steam was coming from the expansion tank, i have hot air coming from the vents and no coolant leeks in footwells so the heater matrix is ok,the rad cap is in good condition and sealing, no emusifyed oil in the head, checked the heat on the radiator and it is warm on the right hand side but cold on the left i think its blocked:( going to flush the system tomorrow just wanting to know what is the best way to get all the airlocks out of the system when refilling.the car is a 3.0lsz 5spd manual.thanks
supra steveo
make sure you park on a slight hill with the nose of the car pointing up when you top up the coolant, apparently it helps the air get out , i know coz i had a panic when I did mine
colmcork
Also when re-filling add the coolant quite slowly, do not lash it all in in a mad panic. Apparently this helps with escaping air while filling. Have heaters in car turned to maximum settings (temperature and blower). When I did mine I was not getting hot air out of the ducts, so as it was late I decided to let it sit overnight and start a fresh in the morning. I left the rad cap off all night, and low and behold the following morning I had toasty warm air without the need to re-bleed.
Dnk
Top up the rad and run car with the rad cap off, get it to normal operating temp, turn heater to max hot, also fill the overflow (expansion tank) to approx half full, raise the revs on the car and watch for air bubbles coming out of the rad filler neck, let the revs drop, top up and repeat till the bubbles stop. Check heater is blowing nice and hot job done
